KRTH cuts 70's at 7 to one hour

No surprise here. Creativity just can't work on this station..ever.

My guess is that Kaye tried to expand the show like he did with Lovesongs on the Coast but it wasn't working. It's just not the same type of show, but like most programmers he probably wants some kind of specialty show in the evening. The 70's at 7 can be a good show, but there's something missing. It really begs to be more highly produced.

Maybe a much better and broader selection of 70's music, instead of the same featured titles that are repeated every week. The same ole, same ole can get a bit tiring after a while.

Exactly. Also, throw in some classic commercials, maybe some sound from 70's TV shows, a "This Day in 197--", then feature the #1 single(or top 3) from from that day, maybe "guest star" a LA DJ from the era as well--there are many ideas that can improve the program--they just need to be used! ;D

Currently, the 70s at 7 is mostly just the same music you get everyday, just without any 60s songs. Pointless, boring, and not at all interesting.

They need to, as other people said, play deeper cuts, do more production, and give more information. They do this with their Beatles shows, which are highly listenable.

They should look to New York's CBS-FM. Their specialty programs are always quality productions and compelling radio.

Actually I've heard some gems on the 70's at 7 that are not on the regular playlist. Songs like "Happy Man" by Chicago and "I've Found Someone of my Own" by Free Movement are two that come to mind.

Hmmm. Maybe I should check it out again.

Usually, if I happen to hear it in the car, it's Bennie and the Jets or what have you. In any event, if they do have gems, my guess is just one or two per show. Not enough.
