KRTH, KOST and K-Love En Espanol

Made my first trip to El A in many years over the past week and had a chance to listen OTA.

KRTH has probably one of the best Oldies playlists in all creation. I would still rank them behind KOVR 103.7 "The River" out of Reno but they are close. Where I lost interest was in their frequent and VERY LONG commercial breaks. Irritating to the max. I think I counted one stretch of 11 spots in one stop set.

KOST is as sappy a radio station as I've ever heard. Granted, I am definitely not in their demo gender or age-wise so it is probably understandable but geez-whiz.....all that estrogen and Kleenex!

K-love en Espanol.....my driving partner was a Jesus freak and this was the closest thing he could find to radio religion. I do not speak much Spanish but I have to admit their playlist was easy on the ears (maybe because the message was not understandable in large part) but their song selections seemed much more mellow and actually musical than the amateur metal-bangers on the English language version.

In all probability OTA radio in El A would have been more enjoyable except for the death wish most drivers seem to have over there. I haven't seen that level of poor driving skills and outright aggressive stupidity since I left Noo Yawk back in the early 70's.

K-Love 107.5 in LA is not "K-love en español." It has nothing to do with the national EMF produced K-love contemporary Christian format.

LA's K-Love is owned and operated by Univision, the Spanish language TV and radio web, and is strictly commercial. The origins of the format date back to the late 70's and it predates the religious offering by decades.

The format is Spanish AC, targeted at women 25 to 44, and is not religious and the songs are not religiously focused

Interestingly, the HD-2 channel of KLVE 107.5 is a product called "Amor Celestial" which is, in fact, contemporary Christian in content and all in Spanish.
