KRTH PD

OK, according to R&R online, KRTH is looking for a new PD. Who do you think would be best for the job and why? I'd like to see somebody who has a lot of ideas and is willing to shake things up a bit. Drop the consultants and bring back Bobby Ocean! (Of course...THAT'S probably not going to happen)

Thread already started

Hello. A thread just like the one you want to start is located on page two at the bottom of your screen.

Those are all great names!! But they have been around for a long time. Lets bring someone new to the table who knows Oldies and knows how fun the format can really be.

Great Oldies PD's for the job would be people like...Joe Cortese with Infiinity...Tim Miller with Citadel or Don Daniels with KCMO.

Any thoughts.

Jeff.

Bring back Bobby Ocean?

First off Bobby Ocean never worked at K-EARTH. Second, Bobby Ocean is not a programmer??

Yeah, he's right ... right as rain.

He's an OCEAN.

Three words....

Rich

Brother

Robin

I haven't ever known anyone with more passion for the music and the format.

Re: Thread already started

I agree. Miller spent time in Columbia, but has some major market experience.

Someone who does not have any bad habits and will work hard...thats a great idea!

KRTH LA

I'm aware of a number of qualified Programmers who've been contacted about this job who want nothing to do with it (believe it or not).

KRTH used to be a glamor gig but the outrageous cost of living in LA (big salary notwithstanding) is a huge negative, lousy family atmosphere and Viacom's flagging commitment to the format has a lot of cats saying, "thanks, no thanks" to this turkey.

The station or the market wouldn've been a no-brainer to go after years ago- not anymore.

Yeah, I know :).

But thanks for thinking of me.

Goodbye ... and hello.

I AM dysfunctional.

I have to agree here. Infinity is no longer committed to the "oldies" format like it used to be. Witness what they did to WCBS-FM in NY. Anyone who takes this job is going to be harassed to death by "the suits" and won't have much freedom to actually program the station. Look at what Infinity did to WOGL also; they cut back the music, and the jocks don't have much to say, except for Ron O'Brien who can talk so fast that he can the liner and something funny.

KRTH used to be a great heritage station when Charlie Van Dyke and Robert W. Morgan were there. Now it's just a shell of it's former self.<P ID="signature">______________

Its always a shame to see such great stations go down and we've experienced a lot the past 5/10 years or so.

I think the original poster was suggesting that they "bring back" Bobby Ocean's imaging (which he'd been splitting with Charlie Van Dyke).
A good idea, in my book.

Now, about the station, overall? Well, I've suggested Rich Brother Robbin for PD. I'd stand by that and go with this:

5-9AM: Rick Dees
9AM-1PM: Jim Carson
1PM-3PM: Rich Brother Robbin (short shift to allow for PD duties)
3PM-7PM: Shotgun Tom Kelly
7PM-10PM: Hollywood Hamilton (allowing him to return to his strength...a high-energy, fun night jock)
10PM-1AM: Dave Randall
1AM-5AM: Christina Kelley

Or better yet, just hire Rich Brother for PD and let him pick his own jocks!
