KRTH PD

Re: Bring back KRTH

That's a good jock lineup! But could we find somewhere in there to squeeze in a returning Jackson Armstrong? ;)

Why, sure! Infinity's paying the salaries, right?

5-9AM: Rick Dees
9AM-Noon: Jim Carson
Noon-2PM: Rich Brother Robbin
2-4PM: Shotgun Tom Kelly
4-7PM: Jackson Armstrong
7-10PM: Hollywood Hamilton
10PM-1AM: Dave Randall
1AM-5AM: Christina Kelly

Or, since the thread is "Bring Back KRTH", you could return to the original spirit and era:

5-9AM: Charlie Tuna
9AM-12Noon: Brian Bierne
12Noon-3PM: Johnny Hayes
3PM-7PM: Shotgun Tom Kelly
7PM-10PM: Humble Harve
10PM-2AM: Jim Carson
2AM-5AM: Jay Stevens

Seriously, Doc..my first post was an exercise in restraint...not wanting to displace too many existing KRTH personalities (apologies to Gary Bryan), not wanting to blow the salary budget apart (though Dees alone could do that)...and sticking to jocks who are currently in Southern California and could show up Monday for the right deal. If I put in everybody I'd like to hear, you'd have 24 jocks doing one-hour shifts.

Use your resources wisely?

How about:
5-9AM: Rick Dees
9-2PM: Jim Carson
2-7PM: Shotgun Tom Kelly
7PM-Mid: Christina Kelley
Midnight to 5AM: Program Director via Voice Tracks

Send Hollywood to another Station in the Cluster, and cut Dave Randall.

Miami:
Using your resources this wisely isn't that wise, in my opinion. Part of "bringing back" K-Earth (if it can be done) would be to bring back entertainment, excitement and pacing...hard to do when you're asking 5-hour shifts of your frontline daytime talent and voicetracking (and if your PD is Rich Brother Robbin, what a waste overnight voicetracking would be). If I were to get your suggestion as a memo from corporate, I'd counter with:

5-9AM: Rick Dees
9AM-1PM: Jim Carson
1PM-3PM: Rich Brother Robbin
3PM-7PM: Shotgun Tom Kelly
7PM-11PM:Hollywood Hamilton (again, a terrific night jock who's miscast now)
11PM-5AM:Christina Kelly
Weekends/Utility: Dave Randall (essentially the job he has now)

K-Earth will never be L.A. & Orange Counties Radio Leader Again?

Alright Michael, let's go with your Plan # 2, let the new P.D. bring in his own Staff?. I say this because I don't want to hear Rick Dees again. Jim Carson is a very nice man, however he's run his course. Shotgun Tom is great. After years of seeing him on a local L.A. TV spot, I met him in 1983 at KIIS taking pictures. Rick Dees wanted Security to remove him from the premises, we didn’t have Security. Hollywood Hamilton is not an Oldies Jock in any day part. I can't comment on Christina Kelly, I liked Chaz Kelly? And Dave Randall does nothing for me, wherever he's worked. Why not replace him with Danny Martinez?. What about Bobby 'what a guy' Ocean, Dave Sebastian Williams, maybe Paul Freeman. Sure would love to hear Big Ron back again!. What about Jay Gardner, might not be the best Jock, but had a killer Oldies voice at KRTH. Tom Kent seems to know Oldies, nobody seems to know Tom Kent?. I would love K-EARTH to be my Oldies Station, playing just 70's & 80's modern Oldies, ‘exclusive’ to the L.A. market!

L.A. almost knew him....Truckin' Tom was Charlie Van Dyke's choice to replace Billy Pearl in 1975 at KHJ. Paul Drew overruled Charlie and brought in John Leader.

Truckin' Tom Kent

I only heard about Truckin' Tom last Month. Listened to his Demo's/ Airchecks over at Reel Radio. I found it interesting that one of the Programmer Testimonials was from Jay Coffey, talking about how great a fit Tom's show was on K-EARTH 101. However my friend Bruce Chandler told me he never heard of Truckin' Tom, and the show NEVER ran there! Oh well, have a nice Weekend, it's my Birthday today, and I was supposed to be in L.A. Instead it's Martial Law in Broward County after 7 PM, and here in Miami-Dade at 8 PM.
