KRTH Z to A Labor Day Weekend

Will it be a huge list or just the regular playlist in reverse alphabetical order? If they go from Fri. at noon to Sun. at mid (minus the specialty shows) they will be able to play about 1125 tunes. If they do it twice, 562 songs. I have a feeling they will probably play it twice and we'll hear the regular stuff with maybe one "ow wow" every hour. But then again, maybe they'll surprise us.

Probably repeated twice..in other words, nothing spectacular, just their usual playlist arranged A to Z, give or take a few. (last year's was like this)

Yes, when I heard "Zorba" I said "hmmm, this could be good." And by KRTH standards this IS sounding good. It won't touch the WCBS A to Z, but they're unearthing some good gems. First good weekend for K-Earth since the "summer songs" and New Year's Top 1001. (The only two good weekends this year, actually.)

Interestingly, KROQ is doing an A to Z weekend, also featuring some lesser-heard songs from the past.

And then there's KBIG, doing a year by year "mix" thing starting with 1980.

Nothing will even come close to WCBS A to Z..you're right. Nice to hear "Xanadu" and "Walk on By"..Zorba the Greek is rare on KRTH for sure. Great to see different songs aired for once! Keep it up KRTH.

Check out JET 107.9 Pueblo online. They are playing the Top 70 of the 70's all Labor Day Weekend. Here's the catch..it's the Top 70 of 1970, then 1971, 72, 73, 74..etc.. Talk about rarities here, something you'd might like.

Every time Labor Day Weekend comes around, I always think of KRTH of the mid 80's. Back then, they'd play every single L.A. #1 song in chronological order from 1955 to 1984..all day and all night! It was a blast!

The weekend before Labor Day, they'd do the #2's of L.A. (Runners-Up of Rock and Roll Weekend)

No parade of hits weekend, huh?

Amazingly..it's only been 9 hours and they're already in the T's, going backwards from Z. aaahh.. Tuesday Afternoon by the Moody Blues, one of my all-time favorites, then TSOP, great stuff!!

You know life is good when you're driving down PCH in Malibu, the weather is perfect, there's little traffic, you're returning from the beach, and on your radio you hear Rock and Roll Music by the Beach Boys, Beatles, and then Chuck Berry, all in a row.

I wish I could listen to the JET thing, but my computer is recording the WCBS countdown to listen to later. (No spoilers!) Top 70 of each year is a pretty cool concept! (It's also too late to hear the best years!)

In what is a first for K-Earth, they're playing things like Sussidio, Berlin, Naked Eyes.... mid-80s stuff that pushes the boundaries. Surprising.

Very similar to the WCBS July 4 countdown: push back to the 50s, play rare stuff from every decade, and push forward into the 80s. It's just shorter, really, is the only difference.

The WCBS countdown must have had good ratings.

Awesome...glad KRTH is sounding better, at least in specialties! Haven't had much time tuning, since I'm listening to the Jet 70's countdowns here. I'll be in Socal next week, so I can hear KRTH in the car!

Sounds like a much shortened version of WCBS, but at least they are using all four days to do this Z to A countdown.

Charlie Tuna: KRTH 101, hello?

Caller: Charlie, I'm just calling up to say how amazing this weekend is. You're playing so many great songs. Why don't you play these all the time?

Charlie Tuna: Call up my boss and tell him. He's in charge.

Caller: OK, well it's great. How many songs from each letter do you play?

Tuna's been playing phone calls like this all day. Hope management listens. I'm not only hearing songs I've never heard on KRTH before, I'm hearing songs I've never heard before in my LIFE! Awesome weekend.

K-Earth sounds like it did in the 80's, it hasn't sounded this good since 1990...between this and VH1 Classic's 80 hours of 80's, it's the 80's all over again. 8)

They even played " Stairway to Heaven".......Heard that on the way up the coast Saturday morning......

I have no idea, but it is extremely infuriatin that they don't sound this good all the time.

I've seen a list of the songs they've been playing on Mediabase, and they should be playing far more of these songs much more frequently.

Paul Revere & The Raiders, including the #1 single 'Indian Reservation'? They were a staple at KHJ & KRLA from 1965-71.

Barry McGuire's 'Eve Of Destruction'? If you can play many of Bob Dylan's social commentary masterpieces, 'Eve Of Destruction' is a no-brainer.

When you have a library this deep loaded with oldies and classic rock materpieces, there is no reason to play any song more than once or twice a day.

But like far too many radio stations out there, it's obvious that they don't trust or respect their audience, and that is indefensibly pathetic.

The question is how will they finish? It's 6:30 on Monday and they just started the C's.

It's called the Z to A Labor Day Extended Weekend. Overtime it is!!

Even the Top 70 of the 70's will go into Tuesday. JET 107.9 is only on the top 70 of 1977 and it's 11:15pm local time here in Co. They did not air the countdown during the overnights.

Hope KRTH incorporates this "new" music into their regular rotation. Sounds like a successful A to Z this time around. :)

Maybe KRTH will finally get the message, that other stations (WCBS and others) have huge choices for their rotations and massive libraries to play songs from. This Z to A is a beginning for them...hopefully they'll follow through.

No song should ever be played more than once or twice a day. That includes "Brown-Eyed Girl". 1000's of possible hits, only 400 to play repetitiously is not my cup of tea.

Having heard both 'Brother Louie' & Neil Diamond's wonderful 'Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show' within the past 10 minutes for the first time in ages, I'm even more infuriated tat these songs aren't played more often.

Here comes 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', another criminally underplayed smash.

If they played all these songs all the time, there'd never be a reason to change the station!!!!
