KRTH

The owners of the Beatles songs are obviously very concerned about illegal recording and sharing of the music. Is it the Michael Jackson estate now, or somebody else?

So I don't know all the legal intracacies involved here, but I'll note that you can't download Beatles songs from itunes or any other (legal) provider on the internet - not even if you're willing to pay for them.

Michael Jackson still owned a partial share (50%?) of the Beatles catalog when he passed. You can't get Beatles music on those digital jukeboxes that pull the music off servers over the internet either.

That's strange... I'm listening to the stream of the Top 70 John Lennon/Beatle songs from 97 Rock Buffalo commemorating John's birthday. ???

Yeah I don't understand that as well either since my Pandora has a Beatles channel which freely plays all Beatles songs to my hearts content

I have heard Beatles songs streaming on WCBS and several other stations that stream online.

Could this be the result of some strange deal KRTH/Infinity/CBS worked out some years ago during the internet's infancy?

I find it odd the powers that be would are nervous about Beatles music being illegally shared and downloaded as one can basically go a couple feet in any direction on the internet and download the Beatles music, illegally or legally.

What is the reason K-earth 101 can not stream Beatles songs?
No one asked, so I will. What does the stream play when KRTH plays a Beatles song? Is it blank or do they run an alternative song the same length? ???

I-tunes has the Beatles to a limited degree--They have an album of the early days with Pete Best and have been featuring John Lennon all weekend

Napster has "Ain't She Sweet", that's it. Everything else is fake re-records by tribute artists.

Beatles to a "limited degree" is really stretching it. When people think of The Beatles catalog, they're talking about the hits and album cuts from the albums Meet the Beatles through Abbey Road - nothing before or since. Imagine (John Lennon) is arguably a classic hit, but it's no more "Beatles" than is Admiral Halsey (McCartney & Wings), The No No Song (Ringo Starr) or My Sweet Lord (George Harrison).

I assume the original post was regarding "The Beatles Brunch" on K-Earth. They cannot stream that show because of The Digital Millennium Copyright Act which states:

"A Webcaster must comply with the “sound recording performance complement,” which prohibits a Webcaster from transmitting within any given three hour period: (A) more than three different songs from the same album if more than two such songs are transmitted consecutively or (B) four different songs by the same artist (or four different songs from the same compilation) if more than three such songs are transmitted consecutively."

As far as I know, KLOS also does not stream their Breakfast With The Beatles for the same reason.

So, it has nothing to do with The Beatles themselves. If it were The Monkees Brunch or Breakfast With Led Zeppelin, the rules would still apply.

I have a hard time seeing the point of such a law. Someone could just go to Youtube and record their favorite songs in a few minutes if they wanted to.
