Have they already switched, if so what type of "Adult Hits" are they doing?

Seems to a trend for the Smooth Jazz format in most markets, KKSF 103.7 and KJZN 105.5 Fresno come to mind.

If they want to go Adult Hits they should go all out and pick up Bob FM or something like that
I perceive "they" are independent and competent enough to not have to, "pick up" anything. The "key" is local, not "canned". Presentation is just as (if not more) important than the genre. That's why it's still The River, (a unique signature) and still "cool"! Don't ever lose your core identity, no matter what tunes you play!

I would keep "The River" slogan for an Adult Hits format, There one station I stream on the weekend for the "Classic Casey Kasem AT 40 of the 80s", they are The River 101.5 WRVF from Toledo Ohio, And they are an Adult Hits format kind of like a "JACK" mixed with some currents, closer to a Soft "Rock" Format.

I agree Roachly! In Sacramento, The Zone started out as KQPT-100.5 The Point originally with Smooth Jazz in 1988. In 1992, They dropped Smooth Jazz and switched to AAA but kept the calls and "The Point" identity.

Unlike most Adult Hits stations like Jack or Bob, The River retains all of their dj's. Only the music has changed though co-owner Jim Bryan still spins the New Age/World Music on Sunday Mornings. Compared to most Adult Hits stations, The River plays less Alternative Music.

Now that Smooth Jazz has disappeared from this market, I am still waiting for them to drop Adult Standards from KVIN-Vintage 920 The Vine. If they do, I expect them to change to Talk, especially with KMPH gone.

Actually KRVR wasn't a true Smooth Jazz station anymore - it segued to the Smooth AC format (much more vocals and much fewer instrumentals) about a year or so ago probably.

Wouldn't that be like doing the same thing and expecting different results? If right wing satellite talk was so popular in Modesto , why did KMPH fail?

A egotistic/speculative/pricey facility (KTRB) move to another market, at the wrong time. Plus a bad economy (in general) for the Pappas properties. OK... Back to the topic!

CC's KFIV-1360 has been airing a Conservative Talk format successfully since 1989.

That's true. And also on 1280 Stockton. Could it be that the market was saturated?

I don't know about Modesto, but 1280 is a flop. There hasn't been a moneymaking format on that frequency in years! KWSX-1280 merely simulcasts KSTE-650, KFBK-1530 and the Afternoon show from 1360. Nothing really is local. And locals are listening to KSTE & KFBK anyway (it shows in the ratings, not 1280). There might be room for another talker if it is maintained well. Unfortunately CC holds a monopoly to the best highly rated syndicated talk shows.
