I think Kiefer Curley (sp?) owned the station at the time and sold them a half-hour. I remember the clips in the paper about it. They didn't buy the station, they just bought the time. KRVT has always been a little jewel. I'm glad it's doing well. Stan is a great guy, and I agree with Durkee, it is always something I wished I could do, own an AM, serve the community, have some fun doing a little radio. I actually tried to buy KWPR (back in the mid-80s) but my investors backed out. They thought for $150k they would get something like KRAV. Uh, no, I still believe we could have made it work and have fun doing it. Stan, you're one lucky guy! Good luck!

BillyG~ I found the highball mic's (hidden in the ceiling behind the transmitter) when we moved the McMartian transmitter out of the Ramm Road location. They were promptly stolen by an account executive. The McMartin XMTR found a new home in Lousiana. The DAP is still missing in action.

LOL the DAP should have been tossed out years ago for a good Optimod AM. I remember hearing the Ramm Road building was REAL easy to break into because there were so many keys floating around. I never left any of my "stuff" (headphones, clothes, food in the fridge) there overnight. And through the station went through 3 "owners" none of them had the brains to tell the bank to change the lock.

I'm glad your station moved out of Ramm Road. I hated the big transformer across the street from it. One afternoon during my shift a bad thunderstorm I heard that big thing pop, fizz and saw sparks arc from it as the power surged in and out of it. It was so bad the records started "wowing".

Keifer was the former mayor of Claremore and the guy who fired me - he had the PD (a guy named Jack Stallings) tell me the station was going to run a satellite format and had to axe half the staff. KWPR just didnt have enough power then to compete in T-Town, daytime only so things like high school football were out of the question, and most of the locals were all listening to Tulsa radio. By that time I was glad to move out of there

Dick Loftin, if your backers from back in the '80s still have that $150K, holler 'em up and put 'em on standby. If the Whack-a-Whole-Damned-Industry corporations have a few more months like the past few, you probably CAN buy a KRAV for that. Or wait a few months beyond that, and some of the big groups may PAY YOU the 150, just to take 'em off their hands.

The investors are long gone now, but another one we looked at was the Wagoner AM 1530 at about the same mid-80's period. This was great. We found the station on a county road (dirt, of course) and pulled onto the property which was a chicken farm. Chickens were pecking around, there was poop everywhere, and the "studio" was in a little chicken hut. You should have seen the Broker's face (he was and still is a friend of mine who hooked me up with the investors). He's standing there with his mouth open. I tried to calm him down by saying, "Of course, we'll be moving to a new studio in town," but it didn't help. My station-buying days are over. I'm at KRMG now, and it is a thrill to be there. I feel like my career has re-invented itself.

Dick, know whatchu mean about KRMG. Every Friday and Saturday night after I signed off KWAK/StuttgartAR, I'd pick up my Mom's Pontiac and a 6-pak of Busch Bavarian (we were a Cardinals carrier, so I got it at promotional rates--without a fake ID!) and rode around listening first to John Chick, then later Milt Haynes, on "Music til Midnight." Then I went home and dreamed that I'd wake up one morning with a voice like that...and I'd do "MTM." Maybe if I'd've drunk Bud, the voice dream would have come true. But despite swearing I'd never do that (bleep)y top 40, guess things didn't work out TOO bad with my ending up at "The New" KAKC. ;D

I finally heard around 90 minutes of Gene's show here in Lawton the last two days when KFLC 1270 in Fort Worth switched to their night pattern around 5:20.

The station sounded great but please play the original hit versions of the songs, not cheap remakes. I heard remakes of Herman's Hermits "Dandy" and The Crystals "Da Do Ron Ron". If you need help finding the the originals drop me a line.

KRVT is on fine radio station run by radio junkies who genuinely love the medium. My hat's off to the entire airstaff. Long live this little radio 'Briggadoon"!
