KRZ Going to Pride Radio?

Is KRZ going to the Pride Radio format, either on its main channel or on a future HD-2 channel? The music sort of fits, their new logo is the inverted triangle (international symbol of the LGBT community), and they have been airing ads for a Web site for that community.

It isn't too farfetched. Clear Channel is running that format on an HD-2 channel in Chicago. It's surprising that the ad agency people haven't tapped into that community, as it has lots of disposable income. The religious right hates it but...so what?

Their "inverted triangle" is kinda lopsided. Maybe the drunk gay community. You'd probably need a bigger population base to support that kind of operation and this area just doesn't have it, what with young people moving out. Any FOD's have an opinion?

"The religious right hates it but..."

What doesn't the religious right hate? They hate everything...so what's new? I could go on about the religious right, but I won't...

I think this is a great idea for KRZ, but will it last, probably not. I don't think just the LGBT community will listen, I think "the straights" would too. The music...will it be kind of techno/dance music or what?

Do you know what web site they have been airing ads for? I haven't heard any of them yet.

Yes. It's www.gaynepa.com, which also has a billboard (not mentioning KRZ or any other radio station) in Kingston. As for the music, it need not be overly "dancy" or "techno" to attract listeners in that community, although a slight tweak to make it more rhythmic wouldn't hurt if they are trying to attract that audience. Given the ethnic makeup of this area and the age groups targetted by most radio stations these days, the existing mix with just a little more rhythmic stuff thrown in should work fine.

Of course, the acid test for KRZ would be if they showed up at any of the known LGB clubs in the area or if any of those clubs would advertise on that station.
