KS 107.5's music selection

I just took a look at their playlist and it seems they're a bit on the recurrent side. Lil Rob's Summer Nights went from 18 spins last week to 40? And just as Denver is starting to experience the snow season? And why 19 spins to Ludicris's Get Back? And Baby Bash has 37 spins with Baby I'm back? And Akon's Locked up is still in rotation? Most Rhythmics have already moved past that one! What's the deal with KS being so Recurrent based? Denver can't be that conservetive. They're missing a lotta hip hop joints like Warren G's get you down, Kayne West's Heard them Say and some on this board suggest the New Madonna track would spice things up since Denver no longer has a CHR/Pop.

So what is the deal with KS? Sounds to me like they need a competitor.<P ID="signature">______________

Josh, I more then agree with you. KS is too much on the recurrent side then on getting new music played. It's pretty sad to see that. Defentely needs a competitor. Denver needs a new station..either a new Top 40/Main or another Top 40/Rhythmic. Hopefully one of the new signals can fill that void.

Nope, that's KS's current playlist. Just look it up on Mediabase or on Billboard Radio Monitor.

I also agree. But as for whether the new signal(s) will fill the void that remains to be seen, and if they do it'll be business as usual for KS107.5.

Another option KQKS should explore is add tracks like Madonna's "Hung Up" and The Gorillaz "Feel Good Inc", both of which is already picking up spins at KLUC/Las Vegas and already starting to crossover to other stations like WNVZ/Norfolk and WBBM/Chicago. This at the same time would give them a chance to get a head start on who would challenge them down the road.

In a nutshell this Summer has not been a good one for a lot of Rhythmics in the States, and I think some need to regroup or try something new.

KS has never been anything special. I completely agree they are too dated on music, however this is probably what is helping their numbers with their female demo... the familiarity aspect to the music. Does this work? Yes. Will it continue to work? Yes. Can it be beat by a strong competitor? Yes.

95.7 was a Rhythmic-leaning Latin-leaning CHR before the flip. They were heading in the right direction. Numbers were growing, especially with Latinas, then corporate came in and realized the potential and made the flip. I believe the then-PD of Kiss 95.7 is now a VP of Programming in ClearChannel's Spanish division.

Pure and simple, KS doesn't care anymore. Their latest numbers are way down and they're facing a likely sell-out by new owner Lincoln. If CC gets their way with the FCC easing ownership restrictions, it's very likely 107.5 will be in their hands. CC will "flip" the station away from hip hop to help their own concept "Mega" succeed. Cat Collins and company already know they'll be somewhere else in less than a year, so the self-destruction is underway at KS.

Chris...WHY would Lincoln Financial sell off KS-107.5?? If you ask me, it'd be SUICIDAL for them to do so especially given how popular the Hip Hop & R&B genres are today.

First off, Clear Channel will NEVER get its hands on 107.5 NO MATTER WHAT THE FORMAT IS because even Clear Channel knows how much of a FAILURE their CHR formats are herer in Denver (One only needs to look at the mess at 95.7 to see that).

IF Lincoln Financial DOES decide to dump it TO ANYONE, I think Infinity would most likely be the one to end up with it. But that's just MY opinion though....

....As is the rest of this post :)

Cheers for now everyone :)

There's been no speculation like this in the trade press; you're
basing this on what?

Actually, Kiss 95.7 wasn't so much a failure as it was a disappointment. The ratings weren't as high CC had hoped, but they weren't too bad either.
The problem is that Denver is not the typical American market and what may work in Columbus or even Philadelphia may not necessarily work quite the same way in Denver. It doesn't mean that CHR/Pop can't work in Denver, but it does mean more out of the box thinking, more research, more promotions, and more in your face local personalities in all dayparts.

Overall though, Clear Channel is one of the most successful companies out there when it comes to owning and programming CHR/Pop and Rhythmic stations.

If Infinity got a hold of it, I am sure they would make it a news station. Like what they are doing with alot of their stations. Since they can't take JACK here in Denver. THey do have a few talk radio FM stations across the Eastern part of this country. I agree CC would never touch 107.5 at all, but if they did.. I would think with the growing of MY stations wouldn't you all think CC would convert 107.5 to MY107.5?

95.7 into a NEWS station????? :) *LOL!* I don't think so. They may be high on FM talk radio, but an All-News outlet like KNX 1070 Los Angeles is a completely different ballgame altogether.

Why? They already have the "Sunny" moniker here in Denver on 97.9 FM. It wouldn't take much for them to flip one of their current stations (like 95.7?) to SUNNY 95.7 AND reclaim the old KSYY call letters the station used to have when it flipped from the old KPKE days.

They could then take 97.9 and go Country with it.

That's just my opinion though :)

Cheers for now :)

Pat,
Answer this question for me please..
If Sunny didnt work on 97.9 why in the world would Clear Channel try it on 95.7?? And if Country didn't work on 96.1 why would they try again on 97.9?
No radio company would even remotly go back to something that didn't work in the first place! And why not a New talk on 95.7? It probly could work, we never know becsue heck no station ever tried it in Denver. There is a news station in the mountain areas that is on the FM dial.
So until someone decides to give it a try, no one would really know how well a talk FM station would do along the front range.
Btw unless you are living under a rock 97.9 is MY97.9 remember?

> > Hi everyone:

> Pat,

Okay...

> If Sunny didnt work on 97.9 why in the world would Clear
> Channel try it on 95.7??

Umm....Because the last time there was a Soft AC outlet on 95.7 was almost TWENTY YEARS AGO (Hard to believe I know, but it's true) and listening habits change over time.

On top of that, back when KSYY was in operation, they were owned by then-Jacor who (and someone can correct me on this) had just bought 95.7 from JeffPilot because they apparently couldn't make a go with it themselves.

> And if Country didn't work on 96.1
> why would they try again on 97.9?

I don't know and as such I'm not attesting to it.

> No radio company would even remotly go back to something
> that didn't work in the first place!

Ahh...But a different company can often lead to different talent. Sometimes creative. Sometimes disasterous. Look at the success of KDJM as an example. Do you HONESTLY think Infinity would've kept the Jammin' Oldies format in some derivative form if they didn't think they could somehow make a go of it, even with persistent tweaking and changing over the past several years?

Absolutely not.

> And why not a New talk
> on 95.7? It probly could work, we never know becsue heck no

True.

> There is a news station in
> the mountain areas that is on the FM dial.

Really? Where? Do they stream on the 'net?

> So until someone decides to give it a try, no one would
> really know how well a talk FM station would do along the

Again true.

> Btw unless you are living under a rock 97.9 is MY97.9
> remember?

No I don't as I don't recall anyone ever mentioning a name change (and I don't listen to the station on a regular basis). But since you brought it up, I think I'll Google their website so I can add them to my Chump Channel backdoor links for my media player. :)

Cheers for now :)
