KSAC may be changing

If the signal can't get fixed, then so be it. I am no tech pro.

But pride be damned! Does Paula want her station to be successful, or does want the ego thrill of running it?

She owns it, can do what she wants, but she is not successful so far and her hubris (if you will) is causing her station to swirl financially down the drain.

And to your point, if folk are clammoring for Progressive Talk, then Paula should have kept Ms. Craft, and should get her sales folk to sell it, or get someone who is a pro to do it for her. That is what good/successful leaders do. So far Ms. Nelson has made every critical mistake leading to the demise of her station, but hey, she can have the pride to say it is hers! Yippee!

Remember, anyone can manage, it takes someone with vision to lead.

i heard she alienated her connection to the local community college after a group of interns weren't treated very respectfully.

no offense but she's not making some good decisions here.

KSAC has no money. None. And, as long as Paula owns it and wants to play Maverick in a corporate radio world, she's never going to turn a dime with that aging stick. The only shows she had that could draw money were sporting events (Sac State, UCDavis and San Jose Sharks -- all of whom PAY or PAID for their airtime) and Christine Craft -- and if you have no salespeople on the street and anyone you hire runs off in three months or less, even Christine is not going to generate a dime.

Nothing wrong with being/playing a Maverick, as long as you are not doing so just to be one.

Having a vision or unconventional way of doing things in this corporate radio world could bring success and results.

But one has to understand the lay of the land and the corporate playing field, to which it seems Ms. Nelson does not, or worse, cares not to learn and understand the dynamics.

It appears she just wants to "play" radio, not execute the business of, or art of.

Bad stick or not, what a waste of a frequency, and a loss for listeners.

It's hard to believe that a station with that little tea-pot signal used to own the town, but it did

Don't forget... The signal used to be a lot better because they were broadcasting from an entirely different site. The building and bottom 50 feet of the old KROY tower is still standing on kroy way (that's the name of the street). About 6 years ago, during a wind storm, the formerly 200 foot high free standing tower folded. The owner of the site (Knox LaRue) made every effort to 'restore' the tower, but was ultimately denied by the city and the neighborhood. VERY sad!

Although no longer used for AM, that tower had a translator for KYCC on it as well as some 2-way stuff. Now, that whole site is silent.

That's NOT true...They abandoned the Kroy Way site in the late 1960's in favor of the current Sacramento dump location for better ground conductivity. The old site was not as good.

In the late 70's, ASI communications replaced the dump tower with the one currently used.

And now, even the last remaining section of the old KROY tower on Kroy Way has been removed--only a field now.

Sad, everyone who grew up around my time listened to that station and all its great talent and creativity.

Boo hoo!!! That is indeed sad news. Is the building still there?

So I guess we should give up on the hope of the return of KROY? Darn, I really liked my idea of ROY vs JACK.

No, even the building has been removed. Last time I looked, it was just an empty field. I don't know whether anything has been build within the last few months.

Newsperson responds:

When you say "let the professionals run it" that sounds like let me do what I beleive is best and the station will make money. Except if the station looses money it's all on the owner. On the other hand there needs to be a balance of trust between the owner and staff.

The balance of trust needs to extend between the station and its vendors and advertisers. If the owner shuts the door to possible vendors, how can the station grow?

So does this address some of the problems at the station?

Your analogy is equal to blaming the hospital for the Doctor's...that is the reality, and it should be so.

At the same time KSAC can be run ineptly and the owner shouldn't rid the place of people, and should take the blame as well, and that ain't happening.

It is all about ego there, not about doing good (let alone decent) radio.

To that end, KSAC's owner is no different than corporate radio, except that even in corporate radio, they do let radio pros do some of the actual radio programming work.

I agree there should be a partnership...but that NEEDS to start with the owner, who is too caught up in their own glory to acutally sit down and PARTNER with someone, that would actually take some effort...and humility, on their part.

Still doesn't change the primary problem, the signal is horrible.

I love KSAC start my mornings with Stephane Miller and End with Jon Elliot.
Would love to have Thom Hartmann but that is another story.

I have noticed during the news who ever is the new person is they have stopped saying "Sacramento's Only Progressive Talk Statio 1240am talkCity KSAC."

They just say 1240am occasionally they will say KSAC.

Is this showing they are about to change? ???

I hope they don't flip.

Meaning?

She is moving the format to an FM station? If the case whose?

She is moving to an FM, leaving KSAC, if so which one?

The vacated 1240 will become what?

Me thinks a certain low power, class A, move-in.
