Liberal talk KSAC/1240 has become the Sacramento affiliate for the Oakland A's radio network...

KSAC will air 111 regular season games - including all weekend contests, and will join weekday games in-progress at 6 PM if they start earlier.

Perhaps this will bring KSAC two things they probably don't have much of -- ratings, and ad revenue.

Well, forget about the ad revenue knowing the way the A's sell their own games. But 111. Are they expecting a shortened season? If you're going to do it, do it right or not at all. It's great we can hear them in Sac, and this coming from a Giants fan, but let's hear 162...or more. That's why we need a full-time sports station in Sac.

Oh! Poor little "1240 KROY" has never been the same.

KSAC is going to have a tough time in the future. The A's fans are going to resent having their games pre-empted by a strong liberal female. Progressive Radio fans, the few that KSAC has left, thanks to Christine Craft, are going to hate the baseball games. Mary Jane Popp's show is really going to get screwed by this.

If Christine Craft lands a gig a better radio station, KSAC is as good as dead.

In my years in broadcasting I have never seen such a high turnover in staff than that little radio station. She can't hold on to sales people. The owner's young daughter is the sales manager and traffic manager. She's gone through countless program directors, myself included. (Hey! I was desperate and I'm a liberal.) She's had multiple receptionists. Her husband runs the board in the morning and gets paid by Metro Networks. KSAC is truly a fine radio station.

Like I said. Christine is the only thing left that carries any weight there.

But, there is great news for liberal talk fans. Sacramento's number two prgressive talk station, KSAC will remain on the air as long as there is money in the checking account left over from the fire sale of KBMB.

Other than that...I have no opinions about the operation of that station.

If KSAC were to drop Liberal Talk, What format can succeed on that frequency?

Michael, You are right,Chrine Craft is the only thing holding KSAC together. If she jumps ship, KSAC maybe doomed. Question is, what type of format would work on 1240 if they are forced to drop Liberal Talk? How about "50's/60's rock oldies"? It is too bad they can't get the legendary "KROY" calls again, then they can advertise as "Oldies 1240 K-R-O-Y!" Or how about Adult Standards? Since KCTC dropped "The Music Of Your Life",There isn't any alternative in the Sacramento area for Adult Standards fans. Still personally I think Oldies is the way. It can co-exist with the A's Baseball(i.e. KFRC-610)

You really shouldn't hold back so much, my friend. :D

Is it possible Christine could eventually join Enid on KCTC? I know they supposedly started a local AM drive show with some attorney or something (?), but I can't help but wonder how well a single station could do with Christine in AM drive and Enid in PM drive...

Of course, Christine has been spotted on this very board, so she may or may not agree with you...or with my "is it possible" message. ;)

The other thing we're not considering here - in losing AAR to KCTC, KSAC actually ended up with some programming that could attract some ratings, at least in the liberal talk realm - i.e. Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz from Jones.

(Though I will note that Schultz's "sportsman from the heartland" schtick may not play well in California...)

If KSAC were to either fall apart or change format, I'm sure Entercom would have no trouble picking up either show from Jones. They run both shows on libtalkers WWKB/1520 Buffalo and WROC/950 Rochester...
