Nice way to open the 10pm tonight.

Troy Hayden promises coverage of a two-alarm brush fire from their "sister station" in Tucson. Immediately, something sounds odd. Wait a minute, if they have anything close to a sister in Tucson, it's fellow Fox outlet KMSB. And they don't air a 10pm newscast. However, the graphics that went with the story were a dead giveaway that the story came from KOLD. (The 10 logo bug fits perfectly in that graphic set...)

KMSB's sister station is KTVK. Both are owned by Belo.

As I understand the use of "sister" station, it should either be the same network (i.e Fox in this case) or owner by the same company (i.e. Fox). Neither is true in this case. So, the usage of "sister" station was incorrect.

It'd have to be a very old historical document. Autry sold KOLD-TV in 1969. It was briefly (for one day!) a sister-station to KPNX when Gannett bought it and was forced immediately to sell it to Knight-Ridder in 1986.

Nope, the aural was more like "KOLD television 13, first in Tucson."
(The "first" reference was based on its 1953 sign-on, not the ratings.)

Ah! Well, growing up in Tucson I don't remember anything like that down there although I think all three major stations in the 50's did have some sort of sign-off religious thingie then went to the anthem and/or something similar (like the Air Force poem).

Network affilliation and ownership aside, if two stations agree to share resources, they can call themselves "sister" or "brother" or "3rd cousin, twice removed" stations if they want. It's not like there are rules or regulations about that kind of thing.

I moved out of Tucson in 1960 but no, I don't recall another station's ID on KOLD. Of course I may not have been paying much attention in those days - being a teenager and all.

Yep...and that was Autry's KOOL partner, Tom Chauncey's thing, not Autry's. You'd never hear anything like it on the stations (KTLA, KMPC, KSFO, KEX, KVI) that Gene owned without Tom.

Something is evidently going on between KOLD and KSAZ. This morning on the KSAZ Fox10 Morning Show they did multiple location pieces with Courtney Carlmark, a reporter for Tucson's KOLD-13 (CBS). The coverage was related to the Sierra Vista area "Monument" fire now burning. I did not hear a description of KOLD as KSAZ's "sister station" as was mentioned before.

Interestingly, there appears to be a relationship (past or present) between Courtney Carlmark and Rob Carlmark of KPNX.

That's what I thought except KPNX's bio describes Rob as being single.

Guess one or both of them are now doing the I-10 samba. ;D
