Britt Moreno and Dan Spindle will begin anchoring FOX 10 Weekend Mornings from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. They will be giving KTVK some competition. Just announced on the noon newscast, they are filling in for Rick and Kristen. I will have to check this out. Great to see another competitor jumping into the weekend mornings. Unable to find press releases for this information but for those of you with a TV inside accounts something is probably posted or will be shortly.

Charlie.

Update: Begins February 11th. Here is the link from Dan Spindle's twitter.

Can't get twitter to work on this site.

I wonder if Spindle is being groomed to eventually replace Rick D'Amico? Not that Rick is going anywhere anytime soon.....nor would I want him to. Dan has seemed to work well with Andrea Robinson when subbing on the Morning Show.

I should have just posted this instead of trying to post the twitter link for those who need verification to prove I am not lying.

Dan Spindle Tweet:

February 11th... Mark your calendars for the big Saturday launch of #Fox10AZMorning with @Brittfox10 and yours truly!

Should be interesting to see what kind of show they bring to table. Part of thing for me is I prefer GMAZ Weekend over the weekday edition, extremely loyal and I really love the job of Tess and crew. I will have to check it out.

Charlie.

Charlie --

Thanks for the scoop! All I can say is that it's about time that something new happened around here!!!

In Phoenix, we can't go for two weeks without some major change at some stations! :D

I will definitely have to check it out. I wonder if 12 News will just give up with their single anchor, boring re-hash of yesterday's news. 12 News is just pathetic these days and a shadow of what they used to be.

I, too, am a huge fan of Tess and Brittney on GMAZ weekends! But I have Cox cable and can watch repeats of GMAZ Weekend anytime between 7am and 5pm on Channel 14. I suspect I will be watching GMAZ from 7am to 8am and then switching to Fox 10 AZ AM Weekend at 8am.

I too have been a long time viewer of GMAZ on Saturday mornings. I will sample the new offering though. If it is as good as Channel 10's weekday morning show it should attract a following.

Based on Dan's Facebook page, we need to clarify that it will just be a Saturday Morning show from 8am to 10am. It appears that it will not air on Sundays.

Well, what did you think? To me, it was a typical weekend am show -- light on news and heavy on live reports and features. And it was complete with the normal Fox 10 errors (couldn't hear the lottery report, couldn't hear the anchors, etc.). Interesting that they've gone with no weather forecaster...not that Phoenix needs one!

If the local TV stations didn't think Phoenix needed a weather forecast, then why do they heavily promote their Super Valley Pinpoint Desert Doppler Weather Center Now (certified by WeatherRate[tm] as "most accurate") and continue to run those almost 24/7 forecast loop subchannels when there's entertainment options where they could make better use of their DTV bandwidth? :D

Agree with your assessment. I'm back to Channel 3 on Saturday AM's.

This is in my top tier of "TV news issues to fix". Lately I've been taking a look at 80s and early 90s Australian TV news presentation. They had weather people, but they don't emphasize the weather — or the people. (Aussie TV news is much less reliant IMO on having name-brand talent outside of newsreaders.) Why do we get so excited about the weather?

Let's look at weather for the weekend am shows:

Fox 10: no weathercaster, anchors just read the forecast
GMAZ: hybrid approach: weathercaster doubles as "live" reporter, focus is really on the event that she is reporting, not the weather
KPNX: dedicated weathercaster: used to do the same as GMAZ, now has a dedicated weathercaster.

I actually like the GMAZ approach. In the unlikely event that there is weather to report, Brittney is there. But her main focus is a live report from a weekend event/activity.

I agree Phoenix stations too much emphasis on their weather gadgets and so-called "accuracy." ABC15 should quit using that "WeatherRate" claim, which is puffery. I like their newscasts, but this really lowers their standards.

WeatherRate is based out of an Ahwatukee Foothills house. I'm not kidding you. Several Scripps stations have this certification, which makes me think it's a pay-to-get honor.
