KSAZ News 'hiccups'?

I don't normally watch KSAZ news so their presentation is somewhat new to me. Compared with KTVK and KPHO though channel 10 seems amateurish with many botched segues and control room issues (recorded segments not airing properly, wrong identification of reporters and stories, black screen etc.). It seems to happen on all news segments and virtually every newscast.

Today at noon for instance Rick D'Amico's ear plug began broadcasting a control room conversation loud enough that it was audible over Ron Hoon's news reading. Just one example.

Is this the way it normally is or has something changed recently? Seems like I'm watching a local news show from Jasper Junction instead of the 5th largest city in the country.

I have always been shocked every time I watch Fox 10 news how many amateurish technical snafus there are. This has been going on there for years. I guess it can be expected from shows like the morning and noon 'casts because they are sillier in nature, but seeing things like this happen when John Hook is trying to read a serious story just makes me cringe. I'd have to think it has the same effect on him too. And it's not like these are isolated incidents. Almost every newscast I watch has at least one screw up! Maybe all of their TD's and what not are fresh out of school (i.e. CHEAP) and NewsCorp puts all of their financial resources toward keeping the on camera talent well taken care of?

So i am not the only that notice these screw ups. This morning at the start of the 5 am news they had a close up of Cory the weather while the honer was talking to him and they did a quick switch to Ron he wasn't even in his chair they had a close up of a empty chair,Saturday while Linda Williams and Marc Martinez did the 5 pm news they could not even do the correct video for the story she was talking about. It seems they are getting slack in who they hire to run the controls.

It's the KPHO: Linda Turley/Roger Downey/Stu Tracey curse!!! KPHO used to make the goofiest mistakes back in the 80s. I miss those newscasts! Glad to see KSAZ has picked-up the torch! ;D

While the fancy graphics are interesting at times, it seems that the more graphics they use, the more "challenges" they have airing a clean newscast.. Fox 10 is the veritable KING of Phoenix graphics. So, it's not surprising that there are more screwups in the newscasts. I've noticed that KTVK is using many more graphics elements on GMAZ. As a result, there seem to be more errors and screwups.

Anybondy notice the same thing?

Dunno about KTVK or the graphics thing but The Morning Show on KSAZ today (Wednesday) was a technical disaster. Seems the 'news' crew is now working other shows.

I did watch part of Fox 10's morning show on January 1 and noticed a number of technical glitches, but I attributed that to the fact that it was a holiday.

I've actually gravitated to GMAZ as my preferred morning show. It's improved considerably since the economy tanked. They have far fewer "paid" segments and much more news, traffic, and weather.

On a related note, I'm waitinng for Fay to start on 12 News Morning Edition. She will be a welcome addition to that newscast!

Hiccups continue today on the midday news.

I'm gonna hafta change stations. I'm laughing too hard and missing too many stories.

The answer is Fox budget cuts. Rather than have a camera operator, audio operator, video operator, floor director and control room director, they have a computer. Automation replaced all of those people and resulted in a newscast exempt from human mistakes. Of course, machine mistakes look even worse, but think of the money they're saving.

Landtuna, you mean that they actually do news on that program. I thought that they just chatted and laughed all morning. :D Fox 10 AZAM does have the honor of making GMAZ look like a hard news program! ;)
