KSBJ 104.3?

Where would I be getting KSBJ 104.3? I tried to load up ksbj.org but it would not load.?

Sometimes stations are slow in updating their web site. Given that Houston has a monster 104.1, your reception of a translator on 104.3 means it is a considerable distance from Houston. Another possibility - somebody has one of those little FM modulators near you and uses it to rebroadcast KSBJ.

jras, if you're hearing it from your location out in the country, it's probably coming from Victoria. According to the FCC the station came on the air about a month ago; it's a 250-watt translator relaying KXBJ Victoria, which, as you probably know, rebroadcasts KSBJ. www.recnet.com/cdbs/fmq.php?facid=153900&jaws=0

The main station and the translator are on the same tower, but are listed as having separate owners: KXBJ is licensed to Educational Media Foundation, with a Humble address, and K282AR (the 104.3 translator) is owned by Edgewater Media out of Twin Falls ID. Just guessing, but the relay of KSBJ programming could be just a temporary thing.

Sounds like that could be it, I'm wondering if they have another translator on 105.5 that is multicasting 89.9 in Cuero? I'm getting that same channel on 105.5 that is on 89.9 in Cuero I need to try to find out where that is also.?

Now things become clearer. Edgewater Media is an arm of Calvary Chapel of Twin Falls, which is an originator of an extensive network of satellite fed low power translators across the country, similar to AFR. Radio Assist Ministries, which I recall has applied for a number of LP translators in Houston, is also an arm of Calvary. Your guess of the KSBJ relay being temporary is almost certainly correct; probably there just to test the transmitter. The Calvary Chapel programming will show up soon.

Do some googling and you'll come up with all kinds of info on the Calvary Chapel broadcasting model. And as I recall, a few years back they were planning to launch a shortwave service using a 250kw transmitter obtained from the now defunct KGEI in San Francisco, but nothing has come of that...yet.

I ask this question though, what is the point in having it on 104.3 translator when KXBJ has a lot better coverage and more area? Doesnt really make sence to me.

There really isn't much sense in having a translator on the same antenna rebroadcasting the same signal. As jd mentioned this is most likely a temporary situation that K282AR is rebroadcasting KSBJ.

In the application for K282AR from Edgewater Broadcasting, 104.3 is to rebroadcast KLTZ 89.9 from Cuero, a Radio Assist Ministry station, which would not have a very good signal in Victoria. I would expect that KLTZ will be on the translator shortly.

The Calvery Chapel of Twin Falls owns a boat load of stations when you start adding up all the company names they use and the stations associated with those companies. It also gets confusing tracking back what translators they own when everything going back to Calvery is under a different company name.

Radio Assist Ministry has a station in Edna on 105.5 K288FU [I wonder if the Moderator is going to edit the call letters given be The FCC?] that operates with 250 watts and per recnet carries KLTZ. You are not that far from Edna and with your antenna pointed towards Victoria I imagine that jras you are having no trouble picking up K285FU and KLTZ which it carries. You were picking up the Katy translator, K201EU when your antenna was pointed towards Houston.

Sounds like you are digging out new stations with the reorientation of your antenna. Good luck and keep us posted of anything your pick up out of the ordinary.
