KSBJ Streaming BACK ONLINE

As of Saturday, August 1 it looks like KSBJ is back streaming online.

The 'listen now' button is reconnected and they're streaming 24-7.

On-air, they're talking about how God answers prayer and teasing an 'official' announcement on the Morning Show with Mike & Susan on Monday.

So, it looks like God listens...

I would think part of it is with iphones, and internet growth.. KSBJ wants to protect the listenership it had online so the cost of streaming is a worthwhlie investment.

I never did like that slogan. It sounds arrogant - and like they are the only acceptable format to God. God may listen - but a lot of Christians don't because it plays slow and boring music.

Bruce,

Your dislike of KSBJ is pretty well documented here on this forum. And people have, long-ago, addressed the double meaning of 'God listens', so you're kind of beating a dead horse.

Nobody ever insinuated that God ONLY listens to KSBJ, that's YOUR interpretation. The station is very clear that God listens to US, when we pray, when we petition Him, and when we whisper His name, so try thinking of that when and if you hear the slogan.

And while you may not like the format, they had a PPM weekly a couple of weeks back that showed that more than 700 thousand persons 6+ in Houston liked 'em just fine.

It may not be your cup of tea, but there's room for lots of different formats on this forum (and in His Kingdom), right?

I would listen to this station if we had something like them, in my hometown.

Personally, I like the faster stuff but I wouldn't mind listening to something like this.

And Yes if I had something like this, I'd help support them and see if I could help run it.

Just to have this type of radio station in my Spiritual dead hometown, would be an awesome blessing indeed.

Keep up the good work CCMDJ and everyone else involved with this station. May God continue to bless your station and use it for His Glory, Honor and Purpose.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Yes I'm still working on getting something going for the youth population. At this time, I'm still in the Praying and Waiting mode. Hope God will soon open the door for me and allow something wonderful to happen. (If you wish to help me out CCMDJ, let me know and I'll share my vision with you)

I never said I disliked KSBJ. I was a heavy contributor in the early 1980's to help them get on the air. The KSBJ of today bears little resemblance to the dream of Buddy Holliday and the original founders - it is a shell of its former greatness. What is on today is completely different from the station I believed in, contributed to, and listened to in the 80's. Anything creative like the Rock of Love or the Christian oldies show is long gone - replaced by music that might as well be Bill Gothard approved. I have two nephews that grew up in Houston - I hoped that Christian radio would be a relevant and vital part of their upbringing. Instead, Christian radio including KSBJ is totally irrelevant to them and every other teen and young professional I know in the Houston area. They may have 700k listeners (which I really doubt) but nobody I know in my church, and I know a whole lot of them. Every single person I know, especially those under 50 are listening to one or another secular format in the area, the overwhelming majority of the kids listening to Hot 95.7 or KRBE.

I am very encouraged that KSBJ is doing a format relevant to young people on HD-2. Long overdue!!! Unfortunately, HD radio is a total flop in the marketplace, and very few kids and young professionals will even know the format exists, much less be able to afford / be motivated to buy an HD radio. I hope I am not the only Houston listener who installs HD radio in my car to hear it, but that is a distinct possibility - I have never met a single other person face-to-face that has an HD radio. Hopefully the HD-2 channel will prove so successful that KSBJ will be compelled to swap HD-1 and HD-2 and have some real relevance to unsaved kids and young professionals, but I am not holding my breath. I never thought I would think of KLTY as creative and good CCM, but I have a large yagi aimed North for them, and that is my primary Christian listening. Everybody that comes to my house is impressed by KLTY, and a couple of people asked how to duplicate my setup - I don't know how KLTY will do down in Katy for them, though, another 20 to 25 miles South.

Bruce, the good news is that it doesn't really matter if the HD2 channel is successful or not. If KSBJ's experience is anything like the Z's, their new channel will explode on the Internet. With the iPhone and Blackberry serving as the pocket transistor radio of 2009, whether HD gains traction or not, relevant programming's future will be online.

As for 89.3-KSBJ's main programming, it is touching more lives with the Good News of Jesus Christ than Buddy or any of the founding members probably ever dreamed or imagined was possible back on launch day. I am very confident that based on the PPM data (and diary data before that), 89.3-KSBJ is reaching more lives with the Good News of Jesus Christ than any other individual non-commercial radio station in America. I had the privilege of being a very small part of their June fundraiser and what blew me away as I walked through their building was how one could sense the heartbeat of every employee and volunteer. The heartbeat of the KSBJ organization is to truly serve Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast, and most importantly, is 100% ministry focused. It is why they exist...period. It is why I am so excited about the new channel they are preparing to launch. It too will be designed to serve Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast and most importantly, be 100% ministry focused.

God is doing something amazing in Houston and has chosen to use KSBJ to be a part of it. I know they would appreciate your prayers as God opens new doors for them to step through. I believe with all my heart that they are up to the task God has set before them.

I certainly miss Z-88.3! It has been close to 10 years now since I had to move out of the central Florida area, and I can truly say that yours is one of the best stations around. A worthy successor to WCIE, and you have surpassed everything they did.

I have given KSBJ a listen a few times since posting in this thread, and I can tell you truthfully that their heart for the Lord comes out in every word the announcers say. Unfortunately, the music is slow, boring, and irrelevant to anybody out of whatever core demographic (60 plus?) that they are trying to reach. I am a member of a 51,000 member church, not a single one of them I have met listen to KSBJ, and there are no KSBJ bumper stickers on cars in their parking lot. Maybe that isn't a very scientific poll, but ---- Incidentally, I saw a faded Z-88 sticker on one car, no doubt an Orlando transplant. I also spotted two Power FM Dallas stickers on cars, along with several KLTY. Evidently, there are some other transplants to the area. Not a single "God listens" or other KSBJ sticker. My church is demographically pretty young and affluent, and definitely a major potential audience for Christian radio. What I did see were a lot of secular station bumper stickers, although bumper stickers seem to be currently out of style for cars. Not sure why - I proudly displayed my preference for Power FM when I was in Dallas, my wife displayed hers for KLTY. But then, we are both just in our 50's, definitely not in the "praise and worship" or "hymn" demographic. Actually, in the absence of palatable Christian radio, I am developing a taste for my daughter's hip-hop music. As long as the lyrics aren't bad. I also have discovered a 92.1 here that is a lot better Christian music, although slanted to a different demographic - at least the songs are not plodding 4:4 beat (BLEAH!)

If I still were involved in Christian radio to any extent, I think I would have to be thinking of a startup here in Houston slanted towards the under 50 listener. Something along the lines of Z-88.3 or WAY-FM. Because KSBJ isn't there musically for much of anybody my age or younger. It isn't what I contributed to financially in the 80's, it is a disappointment musically. If they have good ratings, that's fine, I am glad they are there for their audience, but what about the rest of us? We have no Christian radio in the Houston area.
