All Access has reported that KSCS has named Allan Peck as new morning show producer. Good that Allan is back on radio.

This must be Allen Peck, JR.

Some thoughts...

So was the story about Allan Jr's wife being transferred to Austin a hoax to cover for the Twister's demise?

And bringing in a talent who mainly knows NEW country (ala Twister,) is this is a sign of KSCS moving towards newer "Top 40" country? Since I'm not a listener, has there been any recent move to incorporate some of newer music left by the Twister void? Is the sales dept missing any sleep over not having the one-two punch of selling both the Twister and KSCS to the same client to cover a wider demo?

And, given what I "perceive" to be the morning show's demo, wouldn't Allan Peck SR have been a logical choice as well? All those successful years with "Peck and Penny" and "Peck and Peggy" at KBOX should prove the elder Peck's value as a person who understands what it takes to build a morning show's audience.

Yes, The sales department is losing sleep because of the fact that something like 60% of KSCS's audience is 55+, and they no longer have the younger Twister audeince to combo with to make the numbers palatable to agency buyers.

KSCS is 'competitive' with KPLX 12+, but gets killed 25-54 and (last time I checked) gets killed in the revenue game.

So bringing in Peck JR rather than SR would be aimed at reaching the younger demos that KSCS isn't reaching.
Right?

Do you really think a morning show PRODUCER is going to pull in younger demos? I don't know exactly how old this Peck Jr dude is, but he's still producing a guy who blew past the AARP qualification age like a decade ago...

I can just hear it "We're joined on the phone right now by (fill in some young movie star name here) Welcome (fill in name here) I have no idea who you are, but my producer tells me you're popular with "the kids", so tell us what you're up to...."

And even if it's not that blatant, there's obvious chasms (according to Arbitron, Neilsen, movie sales, etc) between what the 18-24's or 24-35's listen to, watch, pay to see, etc, and what the 35+ or 45+ peeps do. I bet Dorsey has NO IDEA who the chicks in Sisterhood of the traveling pants" are. Rebecca might, but somehow I'm thinking Dorsey can't sit there and say, oh yeah, that's the chick from Ugly Betty, the girl that used to be on General Hospital but ended upon Joan of Arcadia, Rory Gilmore from Gilmore Girls, and the star of "Gossip Girl" on the CW.

Do you think Dorsey even knows what channel the CW is? Or watches "Gossip Girl" on a regular basis?

Dorsey's enough of a pro that if they were to have one of those girls on he'd be able to pull of an interview, but there's not the passion that there might be with someone of his generation...And that lack of passion comes through the speaker at some point...

Umm... CW is now the definition of pop culture? Maybe if you don't have cable. Sounds like Dorsey isn't the only one out of touch...

I agree with little1. Changing producers isn't gonna help The Dorsey Gang skew younger. No offense to Terry, Hawkeye, Rebecca and Allan, but when we get older we can't relate to the youngin's in the demo. It's a natural progression. It's called aging, and you can only fight it so long. Hugh Hefner may be an exception to that but I guaran-damn-tee you those women aren't with him for his taste in pop culture.

Everybody cried foul when Ryan Seacrest supplanted Rick Dees at KIIS in LA and took the AT40 hosting duties away from Casey Kasem. Eventually that'll happen here, too. The Dorsey Gang will, in time, be phased out for the next young, hip thing.

Care to point out where I, or anybody else, said the CW was the definition of pop culture? I'll wait...

Okay, enough waiting, I didn't did I?

Just pointed out that one of the most popular movies last week feature four 20-something girls, all young enough to be Dorsey's grandaughters.

-Sorry, wrong on many fronts. Wolf is .3 of a point ahead of KSCS in spring 25-54 hardly getting killed and moving up
-18-34 kSCS pulled within.2 of a point moving up while WOLF moves down, before the Twister flip (what were they thinking?)
-This makes also your 60% of KSCS audience being 55+ wrong, and KSCS beats them 12 plus as of Spring
-Local dollars show ytd that the two are in a dead heat at roughly $7m and BTW this number is off 20% for KPLX after a minus 20% 07, while KSCS is off maybe 2%. National biz sucks for everyone. but I dont think the sellers at KSCS are loosing any sleep over their position.

I guess the point is we throw a lot of statements out on the board that some people read and believe, and if so, they should be accurate not a guess.

Do you have handy what were they before the spring book just came out? because what I remember is thatthere's been much more of a gap than .3 between the 2 25-54, but I'm looking big picture and trends, and not breaking out one specific book. But if you want to obsess on particular stats, you go right ahead.

It's OK to be cranky, but facts are facts... Victor started making changes before the Spring book... Sebastian was gone before the Spring book... Whlie it may be a one book trend I don't see it changing at any point in the near future. KPLX is done. Again.

Before anyone riots, I'm not suggesting that Sebastian's departure is reason, only that things at KPLX were and still are changing.
