Hello Ya'll

This just in KSCS to flip Wednesday at Noon, I ask Jeremy if KSCS was flipping to Christmas music and he told me that he didn't know, I also noticed that they've been mixing the old, old country. Songs like:

I Swear: John Michael Montgomery
Like The Rain: Clint Black
Ain't Going Down Til The Sun Comes Up: Garth Brooks
If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me): Bellamy Bros.

Sounds like "Classic Country"???

Well, that might not be a bad move. If you remember Cowboy 1190 got ratings doing Cassic Country on AM, and it started to show in the ratings. With KSCS's big signal on FM, it might just work. But if you look at the other side of the coin, I don't see them giving up and letting the wolf have that audience. The were pretty close in numbers. That will be interesting. If the company were to do Classic Country, I wonder why they did not put it on 96.7 instead of Sof Oldies.. Classic Country is one thing that has not been tried in the market, might be a refreshing change. Thoughts?

How do you feel about Americana??

That has been tried on KZPS and it really did not work. I can't see with that good of a signal that Americana will work. I could be wrong, but I jsut don't see it being very easy to sell either. I don't believe advertisers understand the format. You will have to prove to advertisers that it will bring in the numbers, which I don' think it will. Just a thought.

I am betting it is nothing more than a commercial free Christmas present from KSCS to you starting at noon on Christmas Eve and running through noon on Christmas Day - sponsored by Alan Young Buick-Pontiac-GMC... Oh wait, they went out of business this morning. :-\

I like americana/Alt-country, esp. when you get acts like back door slam and old crow med. show in your rotation, Nashville country today is a joke..

Man you guys are way overanalyzing this. Jeff's right. It's a flip on Christmas Eve at noon. Hmm, I wonder what that could be? AAA? ARRO? Oldies? Salsa? All Pat Green all the time?

It's a 36-hour Christmas music blitz (as opposed to the 36-week Christmas blitz being offered up by KVIL).

I win...I win... It is a 24 hour Merry-thon. Christmas music for 24 hours... ::)

Maybe I should have qualified my response with "In My Opinion." :) I'm not affiliated with KSCS at all but c'mon - what else could it be? Seriously! KSCS isn't performing at the top of the heap right now but their numbers aren't so bad that they blow the whole thing up on Christmas Eve.

Good. Of course, they will dust off the "Faith Hill" and "Reba McIntire" yuletide tunage, but what I am waiting for (aside from Strait) is Cledus T. Judd. Good times!

Have anybody noticed that this "Big Flip" isn't posted on their website? What's up with that?

Charles, believe it or not everything is a conspiracy. Maybe they didn't update their website because it's only going to be Christmas music for 30+ hours. Maybe the webmaster wants time off around the holiday, ya know?

I've figured out what's really going on... They are changing the calls to KRMS and they are going to broadcast Russ Martin 24/7 ;)

Would be stupid to flip to Classic Country. The most cume 1190 ever pulled was 80,000. Stupid move (what a surprise) on CC's part to flip it to news though. Down to 12,000 cume last I checked. As for KZPS being an Americana at one time. That wasnt Americana. Sprinkling in some Old 97's and Lyle Lovett with your Rolling Stones doesnt an Americana make. But I will say this. During the time it was a Classic Rock/Texas Country hybrid it was definaltely the coolest sounding big stick in a major market in the entire country. I give them that much. Po'd that they moved their format around, but understand why. If you truly want to know what an Americana station sounds like tune into KNBT online out of New Braunfels.

And as for Russ Martin....Get over the jealousy people. He is good at keeping and building listeners. 105.3 was a turd that couldnt generate revenue outside of afternoon drive. When it comes down to it, sales is what determines whether or not a station survives. Having a weak morning and mid-day show killed that station in ad revenue with the agencies. The agencies do not buy just a specific day-part. They want mornings..mid-days and afternoon drive. There is no reason to buy if the other day-parts are under performing (example: some stations had a higher cume at night than 105.3 had in morning drive). There are too many other choices for the agency to choose from in this market.

Enjoy...
F.D.

Well Ive been listening this morning & they're doing the Brooks & Dunn American Country Christmas. They're already playing all Christmas music, so it must be something else... ?

Technically, they have flipped to all Christmas music, however, the Christmas music is not yet commercial free. In about 10 minutes, they will officially go to all Christmas music, commercial free...and jockless too.

I think they stay jock less during their 24 hour Christmas-thon. At least they did last year. The question is, will KSCS be something different when Christmas is over, or will they relaunch with the same format, but perhaps a different name? Or will they be the same KSCS we all know and love? Oh the possibilities...
