KSEV STA request

This morning I am hearing KSEV being simulcast on KGBC 1540. Audio on 1540 is over a minute behind 700. Meanwhile translator partner 105.3 has the Power format as normal. What’s going on?

Yes, we've been shunting around this morning. Preliminary reception reports indicate 400 watts is reaching points in Rosenberg, Clear Lake, and Anahuac. Audio still needs tweaking. I know y'all don't like him, but Jxx masterminded this whole thing and against all odds he made it work.

I assume you are referring to the 700 STA site? I had noticed at a somewhat earlier check that KSEV was off the air. Is the old KSEV site now being decommissioned? Is there a deal in place for 1540 to provide fill in coverage in the SE end of the market?

The new KRLY-LP 104.5 is going up on that same tower. Any sign of them yet?

Guess that makes the Power 105.3 Translator illegal again seeing how it no longer has KGBC as its primary. But then again, the same can be said for 99.5, 94.1,96.1,102.5 at this point I think only the 106.1 and 104.5 translators (Spanish) have a primary station or HD.

Don’t forget 101.7 SOL Radio primary station 106.9 HD3.

The Power 105.3 format was back on KGBC 1540 at a 5pm check today.

Meanwhile KSEV appears to be still using its legacy site. I suspect the STA site transmission yesterday was a proof of performance, and what comes next—the presumed shutdown of the legacy site, along with a possible sale of the station—is now in the works.

96.1 I think you’re thinking of KCDF-LP which I guess is technically the originating station for 94.1. 92.5 is KBXX HD2 though

AM 700 is in the process of relocating equipment to its new site. In the meantime, you can listen to KSEV on a simulcast. Tune into 1540 KGBC
I can confirm KSEV is now simulcasting on both 700 and 1540. The 700 signal sounds weaker than normal, so appears it is coming from the STA site that was tested a few months ago. Did the sale of the land for original transmitter site finally close?

Meanwhile with the flip of 1540 I’m not finding any originating station for K287BQ Power 105.3.

KSEV licensed site comes down.
Wonder how much they got for the land? It is right in the path of urban sprawl on the west side of The Woodlands. Probably worth far more than the station license itself.

Site had been there since 1987 when it launched as KTBT.

Curious if KSEV is working on a new permanent site, or whether they’ll just ride the STA as long as possible, as KEYH is doing. KGOL is in the same situation, though they’ve indicated the current STA diplex at the KGOW night site will be re-engineered into a permanent facility.

That was the year after I left Houston. The year before, I hadn't heard anything about it but I was out of the radio loop after March or so. So I did a little archive searching and saw (in a Jay Frank column) that KTBT was angling to get the CBS radio affiliation, which KTRH had given up at the end of March 1987. Did they ever get that?

I don’t recall KTBT ever having a CBS affiliation. It was basically a small town sounding operation with music that was random and all over the place. 24/7 when it started, but was a quick financial failure. After a few months broadcast hours were cut back, first overnights, then weekends, then it was pretty much daytime only until it went silent.

The original KTBT day signal was 2.5kw. The upgrade to 15kw came in 1991 under its KSEV incarnation. Nights have been 1kw since the station’s inception until the move to the current STA facility.
