KSEV is still on the air, but is running on a low power STA following the loss of its transmitter site, which was sold for redevelopment. Day power is currently 400 watts, while running 210 watts at night, both from a non-directional antenna a few miles west of Tomball. KSEV has applied for 1.9kw days and only four watts at night from that same STA tower, but no action from the FCC on that yet.
KSEV is currently simulcast on KGBC 1540.
The station is pretty much a political mouthpiece for owner and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick. He will likely be rubber stamped into a fourth term this fall, so will be in office until 2031 at least, when he will be 80 years old. It is likely he hangs onto KSEV until his political career is over, then possibly cashes in on the station or turns in the license. It is pretty much the fourth or fifth tier conservative talk station in the market.
I have no idea of what a future KSEV owner would do with the station. It would need a fresh, higher powered transmitter facility to have any chance of being a factor in the market. But with AM radio swirling down the drain, would anyone want the station?
