KSFM vs KBMB

Is there a difference in sound between these two stations? I remember when KBMB was birthed, they seemed to be a West Coast version of a Hot 97, heavy hip-hop influence with the jocks and sound.

I know there is indeed a difference in the way they sound, audio wise.

KSFM sounds like a typical FM station processed a little hard. KBMB just plain sounds BIG. Not sure what the deal is, but KBMB has a very unique sound that is not distorted or overly annoying, just really BIG. Sorta like 'back in the day' KFRC vs. other AMers on the dial. The 'bigger than life' sound Bill Drake used to brag about.

If you have an HD radio (IBOC), KBMB has a more drastic difference in sound when the radio blends from analog to HD. When KBMB goes from analog to digital, it becomes really uncompressed and punchy. I actually like it. KSFM sounds almost the same either way, it is difficult to tell when the receiver has gone from analog to digital when tuned to KSFM. However, KSFM's HD2 with the freestyle format is addictive, despite the same 50 songs in rotation. KBMB's HD is on one week, then off the next. I think their HD2 has (had) country on it. Now, THERE'S a contast on formats!!!
