Melanie Morgan, Lee Rodgers and Brian Sussman are scheduled to address this controversy on Friday at 12 Noon on KSFO.
In other words, make excuses, try and attract publicity for themselves, and try to do all they can to get advertisers back on board. The words you use can and do come back to haunt people, and when hosts call Obama a "Halfrican" or demand that a caller renounce his Muslim faith by "calling Allah a whore" and "eat pork," is it any surprise that advertisers may want to steer well clear of this, particularly after the station was sold as part of the "Disney family of stations." I don't think people seriously thought the Pelosi remark was the worst - these other instances are far worse. One wonders if a Muslim show host demanded that a Christian caller renounce Jesus by setting a crucifix on fire and calling Jesus the product of a cheating woman who lied about his conception would concern those on the right who now seem "shocked" by the backlash.
More importantly, it illustrates how desperate the third rate conservative talk shows have gotten to try and attract attention for themselves. And KSFO made it much worse by having lawyers send a cease and desist letter to 1&1 and the guy, the former of which folded and the latter couldn't have bought this much free publicity!
Melanie Morgan was even desperate enough to mass e-mail her fans (using a political action front group for cover -- one BTW which she denied up and down having anything to do with back during the 2004 presidential campaign) begging for supportive calls.
The most important lesson learned here - if you really want to control what is said on corporate airwaves these days, don't bother calling the hosts, the management, or the owners. Have a dozen people call the advertisers and get ten or so major accounts yanked and then watch the fun. Because in the end, that is all that really matters to ABC. And now that it has become a semi-national story, even more accounts are pulling the plug, putting KSFO's right wing talk shows in the same category as most political talk - off limits to mainstream advertisers. KSFO listeners can now instead learn the benefits of the Oreck vacuum, online dating, and gotomyPC, as well as a few true believing local advertisers who will keep their spots only because they believe the rhetoric.
