KSGX "Generation X 104.9 " Stunting?

"Great. Just what we need. Another classic rock station."

Not just another classic rock station, but a BUTT ROCK station pitched up 3%!!!

LONG LIVE WINGER!!!

It is the missing format in Seattle. Might be a bit tough on a south end signal but better than what they were doing with GenX which never caught on.

Too bad "Freddie" won't move to an HD-2 signal after the 1st; this is kinda fun! :D

Bring back Funky Monkey for christ sake. They played the harder stuff KISW wouldn't touch.

At least the Monkey broke a 1.0+ once in a while and had a younger demographic. Not sure of the thinking behind Classic Rock "The Brew."

Apparently the "Brew" format is 80's Rock. Ozzy Ozborne, Van Halen, The Tubes, Joan Jett, Modern English, etc..This appeals to the late 30's to 50's demo. I wouldn't call it Classic Rock, though or maybe it is and I'm getting older!

Again it's disappointing that we have yet another Rock station in the market. But if it has to be, then I think it would have been better to go Heavy Metal or something like the old Monkey...anything to chip away at KISW.

When will someone try an Urban format 'round here? Or better and cheaper, SIMULCAST KJR-AM.

Sheesh...

Why an Urban format? It's not truly needed. Besides KUBE for the longest time sounded more 'Urban' than top 40 vs Kiss.

If you consider pop-rock, rock then there might be a lot of rock stations. If you don't think pop-rock is really rock then there it boils down to 1-3 current choices, each with some issues (pretty much only 1985 stuff except for Tom Petty and a few others, or too angry and not enough older stuff, or too poppy)

An 80s rock focus sounds pretty good to me but the playlist will be important. I like variety but there is a lot of 80s music that I would turn away from. I like some early punk but I dislike a lot of it too. Too much pop-rock would be a turn off too.

Gen-X failed I think because it was too broad. Boy bands and rap with hair metal and grunge? That was a mistake, IMO. Just hair metal and grunge? I would have tuned in and hung around longer.

How close will the Brew playlist be to the playlist of 96.5 K-Rock? I don't recall their tuning exactly but I listened to them a pretty good amount.

The format is just like KFBW down in Portland...80s rock all pitched up 2%. It won't be half as good as Jack...just put "Smooth Jazz 104.9" on there, and I'll be fine...thing is it will take off KKWF-HD2.

Or rather, on Nov 1st..."Christmas 104.9"...yawn

If the format will be just like KFBW down in Portland. then I'll be flippin' in and out. 30-40% is what I call soft, really overplayed pop-rock. I briefly reviewed their playlist here a year or two ago and found it a mixed bag. Most playlists will be a mixed bag of course. If it is a really tight playlist as it appears to be in Portland, it will probably get old really fast. The DJs will have to make the station more sticky.

Is Bonaduce headed there? I hope not. I won't listen to him at all.

Oh no!! If you suggest it ... some pinhead at Cheap Channel who came from DeltaWipe Wisconsin is going to read it and think it's a great idea. Then the KJR-FM calls quickly move to 104.9 ... you lose ANY possibility of recovering from the LAST 10 stupid identity moves they have made @ 95.7 in the last four months ... and on it goes.

Take it back! Take it back!!!

In my first post above I meant pre-1985 stuff (on KZOK). Do they ever move off that?

Brew would be another station going after the late 30's to 50's demo, often said to not matter much. But it seems to matter to the news stations, KJR, Warm, Star, KZOK, Jack, the Mountain, public radio, and I assume at least one country station.

And the wheel is reinvented.....Yawn.

Who ever said a KJR simulacast on 104.9 would destroy the identity of KJR-FM? First of all, last year KJR-FM already rebranded itself as "Oldies 95.7 FM". CC doesn't need the KJR calls on 95.7 and that's exactly what they have been moving towards. And they could certainly keep them on 95.7 and then drop the AM calls and simply call it "Sports Radio" on both 950 and 104.9. No additional overhead and it would serve to bring in the younger male demo. No DJ's, no board ops, no additional promo people. It's not the ratings, it's how much money you can save that is the operating metric given 104.9's less than full market signal. Welcome to the new economic reality.

FMS ... I agree the idea makes sense. Was just being sarcastic about CC's ongoing crusade to make everything international vanilla. I, for one, waited YEARS for Ackerley team to put KJR on 95.7 as AM was dying. They wouldn't do it because the K-Lite horsecrap was a big cash cow. When O'Shea & company took over from Ackerley they were willing to take the risk and launch the station based on its heritage. Since then, feels like every step taken has been progressively backwards with regard to saving some kind of "fun" and compelling radio station. I enjoy Rivers team ... but a tight playlist and bland-branding have literally caused me to reset that preset on my radio to something else.

FM sports would make sense. It's the same strategy Fisher is doing by picking up rimshot FM and using it to simulcast a foundation station that otherwise only has AM reach.

Sorry my tongue-in-cheek didn't come through.
