KSIQ booster silent;

Mt Miguel TX off air. Morena Lake,(muffled audio) main TX is still on an W/estimated 150 watts, and just barely audible in El Cajon/Lakeside/Santee.

It must be very frustrating for KSIQ to deal with this problem. This situation has actually happened a few times here and there over the past 6+ months and they typically come back a day or two after. How the owners keep shelling out money for this station after 2+ years on the airwaves with a variety of problems is beyond me. Who's expected to buy out KSIQ at this point?

it would be better to serve the Hispanic population or a religious group. it's present position would even serve the group that is trying to put a non-com in east county.

Boy did Cherry Creek screw this up, this was a station with ratings
in both Yuma and El Centro.

What ratings were those?

Eastlan does Yuma once a year, and I don't think El Centro / Brawley / Calexico is rated now. And the El Centro stations, even ones like KXO-FM, do not come close to putting a usable signal into Yuma.

In any case, both are very small markets, where billing of well under a million are tops.

In the El Centro market $10 for a 60 sec. spot is good. From what I heard from a friend who had an FM in that market a few years ago the Mexicalli stations are able to command a lot more from spots they run for El Centro businesses, but for Imperial county there is very little cash to be made.

Same old story this early a.m. Mt Miguel off again. Hemet 96.1 solid as I drove thru Grossmont/San Carlos
on 125. Going thru Pine Valley Monday night, the 'main' is so weak there,(6 miles) the stereo pilot wouldn't come
on. Real piece of work..

KPBS FM and TV were also down for much of Friday because of loss of power on Miguel.

KSIQ-FM is back on the air again after an almost 7 week hiatus. I roamed to that station around 5pm July 11th and was surprised to hear it back on. Reception sounds slightly weaker than before the booster went silent, but otherwise, it's up and running.

Being that the transmitter is at Lake Morena, and the booster is there for a reason (called a mountain in the way).

Agreed. And I'm sure 103.7 Sophie's flip to Energy (and accompanying rise in ratings) must be having Q96 re-evaluate whether they want to stay CHR.

How can you compete against THREE full-power CHRs (Energy, Channel 933 and Z-90.3) with a tiny signal?

Z-90 is not CHR.

Garrett, at one point I would have agreed with you, having worked at Z-90 in 1989 when it was a "Rock 40" format. For a good part of the 90s and 2000s the station was indeed, NOT really Top 40. However, take a look at their current playlist and it would be hard to differ at this point: http://www.yes.com/#XHTZ?chart.

Katy Perry, Pink, The Wanted, Maroon 5, Ellie Goulding, Ke$ha, Bieber, Carly Rae, Gotye..... yep, they're all there now.... it may be rhythmic, but it's Top 40.

Agreed...Z-90 is much closer to "true" Rhythmic CHR now than it was, say, a year ago. Previously, the station seemed very focused on hip-hop and R&B...now dance and pop are part of the mix.

This is the general trend that has been taking place with Rhythmic CHR across the country...the format is a lot more balanced, reminsicent of the late 80's and early 90's (before the hip-hop explosion.)

BTW, after a long period of not hearing any commercials on Q96, I've now heard spots for Shark Week and (more common) GEICO in recent days.

Do you remember which was the last song Z90 played before flipping to CHR/Rhythmic, and which was the first song they played as CHR/Rhythmic.

For that matter does anyone have a aircheck of Z90 when it was a rock station.
