KSIQ T-1 of terror

The owners of KSIQ, Cherry Creek Radio, have applied to the FCC for a Silent STA: A "special temporary authority" to retain their license despite not being on the air. The application states that the T1 link to the booster transmitter failed, that troubleshooting is underway, and that they intend to return to the air as soon as possible.

Here's info from the FCC Files:

"ON OCTOBER 22, THE T1 AUDIO LINK FOR KSIQ-FM1 FAILED. STATION PERSONNEL ARE TROUBLESHOOTING TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND TO RESTORE KSIQ-FM1'S SERVICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. IN THE INTERIM, CCR-BRAWLEY IV, LLC REQUESTS SPECIAL TEMPORARY AUTHORITY FOR KSIQ-FM1 TO REMAIN SILENT."

I thought this station was already silenced. Or was that Q96 airing a dead air radio show?

You have to notify the FCC within a certain amount of time if you're unable to broadcast. If it's a T-1 problem it should have been solved rather quickly, but if not, they have to ask the FCC to allow them to remain silent until the problem is resolved.

Its taken them over two weeks to get a T-1 fixed? I remember when I did network admin a few years ago that AT&T had a repair guarantee of 4-6hrs during business hours for their T-1 lines. Granted we weren't running it through a forest and backwoods locations but that still seems to be an awfully long time for it to be down.

Right! Can't they just hook up a phone modem or something? It can't be THAT hard...

Can it?

My thoughts exactly. If it is a T-1 from a telco, that speaks badly for them. If it is a T-1 from another source, they have to interface with the telco and that could drag on and on and on and on and on ....

Or, the original site could be on the fringe of a stable T-1 and line degrades ... well, bottom line is that the station is not on the air. Congratulations on the move to San Diego.

I would file the whole move in experience under the heading.....Very Bad Timing....it will be very difficult seeing the return on this investment.
