Due to inferior coverage. They lose.

I disagree.
90.3, 106.5 and 93.3 all have signal issues with reception north of I-8. But the audience those stations (and the New Q) are going after are concentrated South of 8, where Q96's signal coverage is best. 96.1 has their foot in the door now. Talk to me about 102.1? How about 95.7? All move-ins that started with limited coverage, and worked get a better signal coverage.
No radio station is perfect on day 1. KSIQ just needs some tweaks, maybe an AM repeater (like Q106 had with KOGO for some many years). Here's some food for thought: 933 had their signal coverage overlap the same area for the first few years. How did they do? Pretty good!

I disagree... I don't think Clear Channel and KHTS are targeting 'south of the 8' only. Question... what do you mean by '933 had their signal coverage overlap the same area...'? Same area as what?
As poor as KHTS' coverage is in parts of San Diego, it's far better than that of KSIQ (at least to date). It would be like comparing KZII to an imaginary station that covered east of University to 289 and south of 82nd to 114th. They might sound fantastic, but... Did anyone see Chris' pics of the xmitter east of the mtn... below the peak? Anyway, my point is... you should hear the signal (IMHO it sounds like an XM car radio transmitter at best). Still though, good to hear a new signal in SD!
Cheers...
