KSIQ-testing with full power

Noted around 9:50 this morning. Good signal in Lakeside/Santee/El Cajon areas. One or two songs, carrier in mono.
Usable signal on several portables around the house.
Big 121

I'm new to the forum. I just want let everyone know that KSIQ is coming in loud and clear
in the North Park/Normal Heights area. I'm hearing Top-40,with I.D.'s saying "America's Finest
Hits, the new Q-96". They even have jingles.I didn't hear any jocks on the air yet.

And, there you have it.
(As I predicted), they have successfully snuck in a Top 40 competitor to the San Diego market.

For most of my years living in San Diego, there was no Mainstream Top 40. Now there are two.
Let the games begin...

I like the jingles and music selection, a nice variety that we don't get from KHTS, but the sound is very flat. It sounds like an iPod car FM transmitter. I hope they clear that up soon.

Along with fixing the sound quality, they really need to promote this new station, perhaps
replace some of those annoying Sophie "Just freakin' try it" ads all over town, and at least
get a website up with live streaming for North County.

Signal coming in in Mission Valley.

Here's what I heard between about 4:30pm and 5:00pm:

Ke$ha - Tik Tok
Jason Derulo - Whatcha Say
Cobra Starship - Good Girls Gone Bad
Black Eyed Peas - Imma Be
B.O.B. - Nothin' On You
Taylor Swift - You Belong To Me
Boys Like Girls - Love Drunk
Lady Gaga & Beyonce - Telephone
Rihanna - Rude Boy

They should really put their website back up and get a live stream.

Due to inferior coverage. They lose.

I disagree.
90.3, 106.5 and 93.3 all have signal issues with reception north of I-8. But the audience those stations (and the New Q) are going after are concentrated South of 8, where Q96's signal coverage is best. 96.1 has their foot in the door now. Talk to me about 102.1? How about 95.7? All move-ins that started with limited coverage, and worked get a better signal coverage.

No radio station is perfect on day 1. KSIQ just needs some tweaks, maybe an AM repeater (like Q106 had with KOGO for some many years). Here's some food for thought: 933 had their signal coverage overlap the same area for the first few years. How did they do? Pretty good!

Q96 came in loud and clear (as can be expected) on my commute between Little Italy and Normal Heights including passing through Mission Hills, Hillcrest, University Heights and North Park. Also, good sound through Mission Valley along the 8. Liking it, but as noted, some of the improvements are necessary. And also sounds good at home.

I disagree... I don't think Clear Channel and KHTS are targeting 'south of the 8' only. Question... what do you mean by '933 had their signal coverage overlap the same area...'? Same area as what?

As poor as KHTS' coverage is in parts of San Diego, it's far better than that of KSIQ (at least to date). It would be like comparing KZII to an imaginary station that covered east of University to 289 and south of 82nd to 114th. They might sound fantastic, but... Did anyone see Chris' pics of the xmitter east of the mtn... below the peak? Anyway, my point is... you should hear the signal (IMHO it sounds like an XM car radio transmitter at best). Still though, good to hear a new signal in SD!

Cheers...

I was talking about 933 when it first went on the air, when their entire signal came from Mt. San Miguel, not as it is now, where it comes from Soledad. I think 933's signal has greatly improved since it changed over from KECR FM. True, 96.1 still lags a bit lower. But I lived in University City in 91, and remember just about all the top 40 stations (92.5, 90.3 and 106.5) all having trouble that far north of town. I just think that its too soon to judge 96.1 on their signal, because it is a move-in and still tweaking.

As far as KZII, what about KBTE, with their rimshot singal from Tulia, and their overwhelming ratings (he's talking about Lubbock TX, folks)?

KSIQ's signal seems to be at final level. All horizontal polarization, and in the El Cajon area, measures slightly stronger than Walrus.
Speaking of El Cajon, that is 93.3's city of license, not S.D. Their 3rd TX location is shared with KGB (diplexed) between Euclid & 54th sts.,
San Diego. The second TX site was indeed KECR's Miguel, but KECR first beamed from Crest's water tank site east of El Cajon.
(Hmmmm, KSIQ is also at a water tank...)
The current programming and audio (mono) are just a stop gap until the studio and booster are operational.
Has anyone listened on I-5 between Carmel Valley to Downtown? (I'm sure the owner/engineer have already "checked" it out.
