According to Wikipedia, in the late 90s, KSJO simulcasted on 92.7 (KXJO) in Alameda, 92.7 KMJO in Marina, and 92.1 KFJO in Walnut Creek.

I used to listen to 1500 in the early 90s.. If I remember correctly, the call was KSJX. It was 1500. 1590 is KLIV an all news station

Yes KLIV was KSJO-AM
KSFO is not KLIV. KLIV is a news station. Back in the 70s, yes, they did have a rock format, but I don'tbelieve they are related.

I don't recall anybody saying anything about KSFO. But today's KLIV was originally KSJO and the FM simulcast the AM. I don't know exactly when KSJO(AM) was sold but it was probably about 1960.
In the early 70s, KLIV was a very nice Top 40 station - the equal of KYA in formatting and programming, if not in signal.

Yes. -Bob Ray's distinctive voice can still be heard frequently on TV ads for various Home Shows in the South Bay. I assume he does advertising in the SJ area. About '73-'74, "Rock 16" KLIV was a great sounding station that I would tune in while driving around the Bay Area on my delivery job - the equal of KYA certainly, if not KFRC. 1590's signal was marginal in SF and the East Bay, but still quite listenable on a good AM car radio.

Bob Ray has an ad agency that was based in Saratoga.
Ralph Koal was PM Drive and Music Director for Bob Kieve. Kevin Manna went up to Sacramento

I believe KLIV separated from KSJO about 1960, prior to Bob Kieve.
IIRC, KXRX was an AC station for a while, very San Jose oriented like KLOK was in the pre-Yes/No Radio days. Also dabbled in sports, with Hal Ramey (now at KCBS) as the voice of San Jose State and the first version of the Earthquakes. KLIV has been good at reinventing itself often, from Top 40 to classic rock to "Music of Your Life" and now CNN Radio.
