KSLG 1380 St. Louis sold for $350,000

KSLG, 1380 licensed to St. Louis, Missouri sells for only $350,000 cash! KSLG is 5KW days, and 1KW night with two transmitter sites. KSLG was the old KWK, with a long interesting history in St. Louis. Buyer is Grand Slam Radio, headed by David Greene. Green's Grand Slam is also buying KFNS 590 Wood River, Ill at a bargain fire-sale price. Simmons purchased KSLG a few years back for over $2,150,000 and now is selling KSLG for $350,000. Simmons is taking yet another haircut selling off their chain of AM stations. Big League Broadcasting out of Atlanta, GA is selling KFNS to Greene for $1,400,000. Big League is also taking a haircut in St Louis radio, because they paid over 11 million KFNS. AM stations in the St. Louis market are not getting anywhere near what the owners paid for them. The St. Louis FIRE Sale continues with four stations sold within the past year or so at haircut prices.

This radio station has changed formats more times in its history than I can count. It's probably due to their poor signal. It's 5,000 watts daytime, but it's directional signal pattern travels south and is overrun by KJFF in Festus. KJFF operates on 1400 and KSLG on 1380 and the two stations are less than 35 miles apart from each other. The signal pattern doesn't travel any other direction, so naturally, it gets weak once you are out of St. Louis County. The nighttime signal is worse. It's 1,000 watts and travels north only in a vary narrow pattern. The farthest I was able to get it driving directly north was about 15 miles on the other side of Alton, Illinois.
