KSLK

The Bee was talking of KSLK coming back on-air around May 1, dumping the former sports format for music. Question: Is that new tower site sufficient to make them a player in Fresno, or is this really just another South Valley station? I've not researched the location of the tower, other than what the Bee stated - Exeter.

Thoughts? Ideas for a format that would be viable in the So. Valley?

There's no listing on Radio-Locator on what site. If its in the foothils where 92.9 was located back in the 70s and early 80s when they were KONG, That signal will barely reach South Fresno with a better signal than 99.7 KIOO, but not as good as 106.3 KVPW and KPZO 103.3. If its on Blue Ridge MT that signal will be great.
If it covers Fresno JACK-FM would be good. South Valley only an OLDIES Format would be good since KABX 97.5 doesn't reach there and KHIT barely reaches there.

There isn't even an application on file for the upgrade (in the public access section of the FCC). His reason for keeping it silent is stated on an STA application as being because the LMA was pulled and he doesn't currently have a studio.

Here are the list of applications for KSLK:

This is weird. If New Visalia has a CP or an APP, it must be hidden or misfiled somewhere.

I cannot even find a Class B1 pending allotment (even used for an accelerated one-step). The station is a Class A.

I'm going to check "Recnet" next, but I doubt if there will be anything on this.

I've seen a couple references to KSLK getting an upgrade to B1, but not anything on the FCC site. So, a B1 could be 25,000 @ 325ft HAAT or 1,000w atop Ishom Point, like KARM 89.7, or 280w, like KZPO on Blue Ridge. I wonder if Ishom would be short spaced with 95.7, probably. Unless, they get up high, I don't think they are going to get to Fresno, and then, even if they do, not with enuf punch to draw any decent ratings.

I think it would have to be BlueRidge, Eshom point would be too close to KUBB 96.3 and KJFX 95.7.

I can't find anything either on the FCC site as well. Unless they have a site a little lower with more than 280 watts It would still probably just come in just Fresno not any further north since KUBB would interfere with it ,I would just serve the South Valley.

A few years back I was talking to the Manager at Buckley and they wanted to move 99.7 to Eshom point and countn't because of 99.9 in Merced. I know that 99.7 KIOO is a class B station. So I guess we'll have to see where KSLK will put it.
As far as competing with Fresno stations I agree its signal will have a hard time. Just like KZPO competing with KJWL. KJWL clearly wins with the Adult Hits/Nostalsia format in Fresno.

In that case, I don't think KIOO could even downgrade to a B1 and get on Ishom. Not like 103.1 and 103.3, that are BOTH B1s. But maybe if KIOO went to Blue Ridge, they could have 280w likw kzpo. Still not really competative in Fresno.

There is a peak just east of Exeter,Monument Peak with an elevation of 1700 ft above sea level, Which is about the same height as KWYEs transmitter on Owens MT. N/E of Clovis and there signal is fairly good in Visalia KWYE has 10K ERP. Don't Know what the HAAT calulations are on Monument Peak ,so depending on the calculated power KSLK could have a fairly desent signal in Clovis/Fresno.
