KSLO/KOGM Sold

It appears that broadcasting hobbyist Charles Chatelain has purchased the Opelousas duo of 1230/KSLO and 107.1/KOGM (this morning's Taylor on Radio-Info.)

1) Does he stick with the oldies format that pretty much duplicates Snap 103.7? Will he move Mustang from 87.7 to the new frequency? Will he launch a third, separate station to serve the lucrative 65+ St. Landry Parish set?

2) Any chances of him upgrading or moving 107.1 south towards Lafayette, or is it pretty much locked where it is by 106.7/KLEJ and 107.3/WYPY?

Soooo many questions!

He's also locked by a 107.1 in Hammond WHMD, KFNV up in Ferriday, and KWLV from going North and East for sure for real moves or power gains.. Not sure without doing the math if he can move south or west but the most he could do is 6kw if I remember my rules correctly and KLEJ should limit westward movement.. He may be able to put it on his station tower but not enough difference I think to warrant it.

But I wonder what he will do with the Sat fed Am station he is also buying,

If Chatelain changes the format on the FM, I swear this will be the FOURTH format change on that station in just the past two years, how will that station ever keep it's image straight?
Also, speaking of so many questions, why is the FM promoted as "Cool 107.1" during the week, but is called "KOGM" only on Saturday mornings? Do they not care about their imaging down there? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I am going by what I heard ONCE and what someone who can pick it up all the time tells me.

KOGM trying to move to Lafayette

It looks like Delta is going to try to move KOGM to the KLWB tower on Wilderness Trail in Northeast Lafayette Parish. This application was filed on 12/10:

http://cdbs.recnet.net:8080/fmq.php...tate=&country=US&zip=&party=&party_type=LICEN

It comes with a power downgrade (but a significant height upgrade) from 3kw at 230 feet to 750w at 930 feet, which would effectively give 107.1 a city-grade presence in a little over half of the city of Lafayette. However, I'm not sure whether the application will be approved, as all maps I've seen place the city grade coverage ending well to the south of Opelousas, which KOGM is obligated to cover as its city of license.

If Chatelain can pull it off, kudos to him. He's about to end up with a decent cluster of signals that serves Lafayette fairly well—with the exception of 1230/KSLO, which looks like it's going to remain as is for now. If only he was willing to do something with them other than use them as expensive personal jukeboxes.

I had a chance to get into the listening area of the FM today, and for a few hours they switched it from "Kool 107.1" to just KOGM (actually I heard the DJ saying his name more often than the call letters, every break with his name was a bit much for me), but then at 12 noon they went back to calling it "Kool 107.1", what is the reasoning behind this?
