Is this a marketable item or would it be smarter for Talk stations to do Hot Talk or liberal talk on their HD streams.

Considering the miniscule number of $500 HD table radios and HD tuners for car radios in use, does it really matter?

Not to be a jerk but is there anyway that we can have one actual discussion about radio? Not how XM and Sirius are killing radio or how HD is crap etc etc, how bout some actual comments.

I am talking about radio. HD receivers have almost no market penetration. Receivers just became available before Christmas and they are expensive. This is like FM and TV in 1940. Color TV in 1954. Broadcasters have to provide programming in order to create demand for HD receivers. But it's going to be a while before anybody listens. And any discussion of radio needs to allow for the possibility that satellite radio may supplant broadcast radio. I'd also say satellite radio IS RADIO. It is audio programming delivered to a mass audience.

You Mean KLSX?

Well, one problem here is that I presume you're talking about KLSX/Los Angeles (note corrected calls), which is ALREADY a "hot talk" station.

In addition, the Los Angeles market already has a full-power libtalk station on AM 1150 (KTLK, the flagship station of syndicated host Stephanie Miller).

So, unless CBS Radio A) wanted to put up a second format of "hot talk" to compete with itself or B) wanted to put up a liberal talk format to compete with over-air KTLK, it's not happening there.

Now, let's put this aside for a minute and talk about the general idea of your first message.

The HD-2 formats are basically "placeholders" at this time. Hardly anyone has HD radio equipment right now, and as far as I know, none of the HD-2 stations are programming anything "live". It'll be interesting to see what CBS Radio puts on KLSX-HD 2 as far as "female talk" goes...I don't know if there's enough product at this point.

Silly idea, but WJFK-HD is doing it
