KSLX Music

I have been listening to the KSLX stream from out of town and here is my opinion. What I like about this station is that it sounds like a classic rock from 15 years ago. It hasn't updated or modernized their music library like so many classic rock stations have across the country. I suppose this is by design, to seperate the station from KDKB? Whatever the reason it's enjoyable to listen to. I like a lot of 80s/90s (and current music) but don't like it mixed in with classic rock, I prefer the more pure listening expereince that KSLX provides.

Everything is super familiar on KSLX They are close to being a classic hits station (the old definition). Yet they still manage to give me a slight "oh wow" sensation when they play something older or softer than you would ever expect to hear on classic rock especially in 2011, they are playing Zombies-Time of the Season now for example.

I do have a technical criticism about their stream. After 5 minutes the music speeds up and sounds like the Chipmunks..it's unlistenable. So I have to stop and re-start the stream every 5 minutes.

And they play Brown Eyed Girl too! :D

They added Nirvana to their playlist a couple years back. That was when they lost me for good.

Do they still play Nirvana? After several hours of listening I haven't heard them or anything close.

I'm not the most active KSLX listener but I've yet to hear Nirvana played. If they ever go that route I'm gone.

They've been playing "Come As You Are" for a few years now. IMHO, it's SO silly to just play one song from an artist, but I digress...

They are possibly about to make some changes, because they very recently had a huge music survey for their base to take...and when I say huge, it took me an hour. It was 500 audio samples that they asked if you were "sick of."

I said yes to Brown Eyed Girl. :p

I'd make to big changes to a station that has been top 3 25-54 and was even #1 on 6+ this week.

I like KSLX for the very reason that they continue to play the classic rock hits of the 60's and 70's.

It's sad, but sometimes I think KSLX does a better job at playing the hits of the 60's than KOOL. I love the early Stones, Zombies and Beatles on there. I have even heard Petula Clark played from time to time. Sounds like KSLX is getting some influence from their sister station over on the AM side, our beloved Lumberyard! ;D

How did you take the test? Was it online, or did you go to a test location? 500 song clips usually takes about 2 hours to listen to... any impressions you'd like to share?

David,
They touted the survey last month & invited listeners to access it on their website. It took only an hour or so because I zipped thru it & didn't take any breaks. I also didn't listen to all 15 secs of every single song...I knew all 499 songs & artists...one was a QC phony just to make sure you were paying attention! ;)

There were two questions per song...your opinion of it, and if you were sick of it or not.

When I was through, it was like listening to KSLX for an hour, but it made me realize how they've squeezed every ounce of life out of all 500 of those songs. Time for a change!

But I was surprised at some of my answers...songs that I was sure I was sick of, I really wasn't...and some I thought I liked, I really could care less if I ever heard again.
Must've been radio VOODOO! :)

At the end, it thanked you & said to "watch for big changes, coming soon!"
