KSPN woos then snubs Bruno?

Former syndicated and LA sports talker Tony Bruno is reporting on his website that ESPN 710 wooed him for the afternoon job for several months then snubbed him when it came time to make an offer to replace the dismal Dave Demashek show. Guess that "brand name" thing doesn't work for ESPN when it comes to actually competing and spending money in a major daypart with a real talent. Watch them insert some generic sportscenter hairdo in hopes of getting better than a .3 rating. Bruno iI believe lives in LA and is unemployed while every recycled and failed host who jump from station to station are still on the air? Apparantly, ESPN suits decided he had too much baggage? Olbermann and Michael Irvin had much more baggage and nuked bridges and they were both re-hired by the World Wide Leader in hypocrisy. No wonder KSPN is a disaster!

They previously had McDonnell-Douglas (Joe McDonnell & Doug Krikorian) in afternoon drive, a time slot that show was tailor-made for.

The show was entertaining, both Joe & Doug had all the sources in the world, and broke many stories.

And yet, management at KSPN let them go.

FYI: Some upper management-types at KSPN were sales people when 710/KMPC made it's disastrous, ill-fated, ill-advised attempt at all-sports back in 1992 under Bill Ward's watch. Continuing the legacy, perhaps?

I think the answer lies in the sales department. I hear revenues are a disaster this year...so until Dameshek quits there's no room for another big 6 figure contract like the one Tony most certainly wants and deserves.

My hunch is PD Larry and GM Bob had hoped they could "off" Dameshek's contract and hire someone else. Oh well.

Frank from Frosty, Heidi & Frank called out Dameshek as being talentless and bore back when Dave was one of Adam Carolla's sidekicks on KLSX. I guess Jack Silver agreed and sent him packing shortly afterwards.

I was surprised Dave was hired elsewhere, he really isn't that good. It's obvious KSPN is operating on the cheap and having a hard time wooing people away from KLAC, even though the Loose Cannons could easily be taken on as long as Vic The Brick Jacobs is allowed to pass air over his vocal chords. Dameshek isn't the answer though, that much is fact.

Not sure KSPN is cheap...just not sure they spend wisely. They're reportedly paying Dameshek $200k, but when he wouldn't take the buyout they offered they moved him to podcast-only and now have to pay him to stay off the air and pay someone else to be on the air in his old daypart. Add to that their diary ratings are half what they were a year ago, and apparently not showing well in PPM...and it's anybody's guess what their next move is.
