KSRC Star 102 Kansas City

Reading some history on KSRC, I saw that this station flipped to Adult Contemporary in 1999. I just have a few questions.

How does Star sound musically? I see that their slogan seems more Hot ACish. "80s, 90s, and Today". I know that they had a "lighter" presentation a few years ago, but wanted to get "more upbeat". Thats what I read about the station. So how do they sound musically?

Is Star's presentation and jocks good?

How is competition between them and KURB? Who beats who?

Thanks for any info

I haven't listen to Star in about a year. I'll give them a listen and respond later about their sound.

Historically speaking, KUDL in the past few books has pretty soundly beaten Star in the 12+ ratings. Previous to that, Star usually was ahead of KUDL. Star made a name for themselves being one of the first (if not the first in the U.S.) to play all Christmas music between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Star seems to skew a little bit younger in listner's, with KUDL going to a little bit older crowd. KUDL has been AC since 1978.

102 was the home of KYYS, KC's heritage rock station since 1974. The flip to "the zone" originally and then Star resulted in alot of backlash from KY listeners and caused the station problems getting listener's early on in their new format.

More about their current sound later. Hope this helps some.

Thanks for the information.

KSRC has drifted back and forth in the last several years (I can't believe it's been 7 years now). At one point they dubbed themselves "Kansas City's Light Rock". At another time, they called themselves "Kansas City's Family Station", or something to that effect. The music has more of a younger feel to it than KUDL. It's hard to say, because KSRC is in the middle of another "totally '80s weekend" right now. They do play "Mainstream AC" currents a lot more often than KUDL. Neither station is anywhere close to the "Soft AC" of KUDL or KLTH 15 years ago, though.<P ID="signature">______________
