KSST 1230 AM

How many other people have heard this Station?
KSST 1230 AM Broadcasts out OF Sulphur Springs, TX
using a 1,000 KW transmitter.
I hear it everday and i like what im hearing. THey're
celebrating 60 years of service and have a pretty respectable
signal for only 1,000 Watts. Its one of the Few stations
that's actually good on AM. Ive never heard it without a DJ
But it usually Goes Away completely at night although it stays
on 24/7. I wish there were more Stations like this one....
Oldies sound so much Better on AM then FM.... :D

Pretty weak in Plano, but it is on my presets. There is a 1240 from Ardmore that plays oldies - both are pretty good stations. A 1410 in Bowie also plays oldies and comes in pretty well - but weak.

I cant get 1240 at all....
I can barely get 1410 but its getting interference from something
KSST comes in Pretty much Crystal Here
KJIM 1500 Tends to come in better at night before they sign off at 5:30 PM
KJIM and KSST have about the same signal strength as Each other except KSST
aims to the west KJIM aims toward Collin County [South]
KJIM is also 1,000 Watts. But Daytime Only.

KSST is owned by Bill Bradford a long time vet in Texas Broadcasting. They named the press box aftr him at the Sulphur Springs High school stadium. KSST serves Sulphur Springs very well. It is far better than the 95.9 and 96.9 stations owned by East Texas Broadcasting Inc. That company is owned by Bud Kitchens and with his lackey PD Darrin Tripp, those stations are ran out of Mount Pleasant, with Little regard for Sulphur Springs. The two towns hate each other,a reminder of Amon Carter of FTW disdain for Dallas.. East Texas Broadcast Inc uses the computer driven Waitt radio net out of Omaha. Talk about boring radio. Bradford at least serves his station's community,ETB tries to milk it.

Yea KSST really is a Community Leader. Bill DOes a good job at it.
Ive listened to KSST for a long time now prolly since 2004.
Any one heard about KSST serving TV service as well on
Channel 18?

Yes. and they do a great job there as well aslong as Robert Trammell is not involved. Enola Gay(she is named after the famed atomic bomb bomber) is about the only true personality there. Bud Kitchens needs to get out of radio and let SS have its Fm back.

East Texas Broadcasting is worse than RMS Ventures if thats possible.

If ETB has all its stations on the air at full power and sounding at least tolerably listenable, it CAN'T be worse than MRS!

With the daughter now living in Texarkana, KSST is an Oasis on the radio dial. You've gotta love that building! But I've gotta admit the Kool FM signals on 98.5 and 95.1 make the drive tolerable too.

KSST goes to Texarkana? It doesnt even aim that way...
It aims toward me and it still has hiss....
But god that station is to good to notice its static...
Now if only it could get a power increase....
Cause i wish i could get them at night because 1230 is hell
at night... cant null out anything its all a jungle of stations...

I think you may have misunderstood. The previous poster was saying that KSST was a good station to listen to on the way to Texarkana. I can also tell you that they're not "pointed" anywhere in particular, since they're non-directional, but they've got great daytime coverage. And here's a bit of trivia, speaking of T-town: a few decades ago KCMC Texarkana was on 1230...non-directional before they switched to 740 with a decidedly east-west pattern.

It is a good Station :) Really does have great coverage for 1KW
But it certainly looks directional to me...
LOoks like it aims West-ish...

Okay, I'll agree to an extent. Their single tower creates a theoretically non-directional pattern but the variable here is ground conductivity. In that part of northeast Texas the values are somewhat higher to the west of KSST's site and that affects the actual shape of the pattern. But, of course, remember that the maps at Radio-Locator show estimated coverage only.
