Does Kiss have all its DJs and elements in place for more than a few weeks? Has it done any advertising? 1.4 may be a low place to start but it really isn't fair to consider a format flip after two books.
Let's remember this is an adult format, with some songs going back to the 70s. Adult formats take more time than youthful formats to show ratings. After more than a decade in the Adult Alternative format, KPRI is finally in the Top 10. OK, Clear Channel isn't going to wait that long for Kiss. But two months...
By the way, why did they change the call letters? What's wrong with KOGO-FM? CBS seems to go out of its way to name its FM stations after its long-time AM stations, even if they have different formats... KCBS-FM, WBZ-FM, KNX-FM, WBBM-FM. If you're going for an adult format, most adults already know the KOGO call letters. And as David would point out, on many stations call letters are only used for the legal I.D. anyway. Why spend $200 asking the FCC for a call letter change? Would anyone who isn't a radio pro know KSSX is supposed to mean "Kiss"?
I'm not even sure it's smart to name a San Diego Rhythmic Oldies station Kiss. In Northern San Diego County, some folks are listening to a Top 40 station called KIIS, that's been around since the 80s. Why have two Clear Channel stations with overlapping signals and different formats call themselves Kiss?
