One of the nations first and longest running "80s and more" stations KSTJ (STAR 102.7)/Las Vegas has evolved to Hot AC. They are now "the new STAR 102.7 80s 90s now".
Besides a few scattered COX stations are there any other "80s and more" stations left?
Houston still has it's 80's station. KHPT "The Point" 106.9 Conroe/Houston is still playing twenty years of music from the mid 70's to the mid 90's. The bulk is the same 50 songs from the 80's. The station sucks and so do it's ratings. Has been under a two (12+ Ratings) for some time now. To make it even worse the station has operated without any morning air personality for well over a year now. Most of us are still surprised that the station has been programming The 80's for some time now. KHPT is a Cox property.
Cox just got finished rebranding KLDE "Oldies 1075" to KHTC "K-Hits 1075" and did a remarkably good job. New moniker, jingles and most importantly new music with a different sound. K-Hits still plays music from the 60's and 70's, but with a harder Rock edge to the playlist, which is broader than the old one.
Now we are praying for a makeover of "The Point" to something different, like a "90's and Today" format. But then this is Cox Radio we are talking about.
I believe the concensus on The Houston Board is that Cox was the worst radio company in town, then a few years ago Cumulus showed up to prove us wrong, there is a company even worse by a long shot, Cumulus. Cumulus is getting ready to start it's 5th format in two years on 97.5, ESPN Sports in a city that already has two Sports stations and the ratings from both stations would not even be a 2.5. How much due these people drink at lunch that the affect never wears off all afternoon?
