KSTN-1420/107.3: What's The Latest?

I am curious what the status of KSTN-1420/107.3? Are they under new ownership yet are is it still pending? The programming still hasn't changed on either station especially 1420. Still has MANCOW'S MORNING MADHOUSE in the Mornings with FM oriented CLASSIC HITS the rest of the day. I am still scratching my head on their format. It is puzzling me. Just as bad as KWSX-1280 simulcasting the ACTIVE ROCK format of KMRQ-ROCK 96.7. Sad on both 1280 and 1420. Those 2 were POWERHOUSES back in the 1970's!

Did the sale fall through? Nothing has changed at all?

A few months back I saw on the San Francisco Board that the pending new owners were planning to move 107.3 to the Bay Area, move the transmitter near the 580/680 exchange some were between Walnut Creek and Dublin. Is this still the plan or speculation? This would be bad for Stockton sense there possibly losing KOSO when CC plans to down grade it to a Class A and move the transmitter from Mt. Oso to the valley floor south of Modesto,to Change the moved 93.3 from Susanville to Sacramento and change the Frequency to 93.1. This would mean Stockton would lose 2 FM STATIONS.

I doubt if KSTN-FM will move. The ownership change did not happen.

KOSO moved off of Mt. Oso a few years ago to a site near Manteca with 50 kw ERP and HAAT 150 m. This move is just another location on the valley floor (Southwest of Modesto) and a downgrade to Class A...6 kw at 100 m.

Stockton will be losing KXPR soon as Captial Public radio intends to move the stations transmitter further north from it's current Walnut Grove location.

The prospective new owners never intended to operate the stations. They intended to flip them before taking possession. A pretty bold strategy, but difficult in today's climate.

Actually Michael, It is KUOP that Stockton will be losing, not KXPR, though since KUOP simulcasts KXPR, They are pretty much one and the same.

And A Little On KUOP?

And from what I hear, CAPITAL PUBLIC RADIO will be flipping KUOP to FULLTIME NEWS/TALK (ala KQED) while KXJZ will be FULLTIME JAZZ.

Huh?

KUOP (91.3) simulcasts KXJZ (90.9) at the present time.

KXJZ will never be fulltime Jazz without a full-time NPR News station for Sacramento. KUOP does not reach Sacramento with an effective signal.

Go to the Capradio.org website for program information.

Remember KXPR is full-time Classical at 88.9 from Walnut Grove.

KXJZ is NPR News and Talk during the day and Jazz after 7 PM from a tower in Elverta.

The KXPR format and KXJZ format swapped frequencies two years ago.

I had heard that CAPITAL PUBLIC RADIO wants to move the Transmitter from Mt. Oso to a site closer to SACRAMENTO and that they want to change its City in its license from Stockton. Is this true?

In order to do that, they would have to be at least 40 miles from the KXJZ transmitter or prove 2nd adjacent protection for KXJZ from say Walnut Grove which could probably be done. Also, there's KYDS 91.5 in Sacramento, KNIS 91.3 in Carson City and a brand new Class B FM in Butte City (Southwest of Chico) to deal with as well. It sounds like a hard thing to do and besides it would completely rob Modesto of NPR service just to provide Sacramento with a full-time Jazz station.

As far as a city of license change, the station wouldn't move far enough north because interference with KXJZ and would probably still put the required (non-com) 60 dbu contour over Stockton. Non-Coms are not required to put a 70 dbu over their city of licenses.
