KSTN/1420 LICENSE TRANSFERRED

In today's FCC Daily Digest, under Broadcast Actions:

CA BAL-20101103ACM KSTN 58838 SAN JOAQUIN BROADCASTING CO.
Voluntary Assignment of License
1420 KHZ STOCKTON, CA
From: SAN JOAQUIN BROADCASTING CO.
To: KNOX, INC.
Form 316

KNOX, Inc., according to the application, is LARUE FAMILY LP (81.7%) and ANNETTE LARUE (18.3%), which means that the new owners are the old owners. Exhibit 2 of the application reads:

THE ASSIGNOR, SAN JOAQUIN BROADCASTING CO., IS THE LICENSEE OF KSTN (AM) AND KLVS (FM), STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA. ON NOVEMBER 2, 2010, A LONG FORM APPLICATION (BTCH-20101102ABF) WAS FILED TO TRANSFER CONTROL OF LICENSEE TO EDUCATIONAL MEDIA FOUNDATION; THAT TRANSFER OF CONTROL APPLICATION, HOWEVER, RELATES ONLY TO KLVS AS THE STOCK PURCHASE AGREEMENT FOR THE KLVS TRANSACTION REQUIRES THAT ASSIGNOR/LICENSEE ASSIGN THE LICENSE OF KSTN TO A SUBSIDIARY PRIOR TO CLOSING THE TRANSFER OF CONTROL OF KLVS. THE INSTANT APPLICATION SEEKS CONSENT TO ASSIGN THE KSTN LICENSE TO KNOX, INC. ('ASSIGNEE'). THE OFFICERS, DIRECTORS AND OWNERSHIP OF BOTH ASSIGNOR AND ASSIGNEE ARE IDENTICAL AND, THEREFORE, USE OF A SHORT FORM APPLICATION IS APPROPRIATE.

Does this mean KSTN-AM will return to the air? As this transfer appears to be merely a legal maneuver, I'd say no.

Unless they are able to get an extension from the FCC to continue being silent, If KSTN does return to the air, I see them going the "Brokered Ethnic" or "Brokered Religious" route.

It's a shame the FM signal fell to KLove stuff.

No it isn't.

EMF treats AM as if it were a disease.

They do have at least one AM, WNWT/1520 Rossford/Toledo OH, which they're apparently only keeping because it is centrally located in the Toledo market. Their once-LMAed-now-O&O FM, WNKL/96.9, is a rimshot licensed to far off Wauseon, and they have a couple of translators (including 104.1 on the Ohio'Michigan border, the only translator the WNKL/WNWT legal ID mentions by frequency).

EMF just bought WEXC/107.1 Greenville PA/Youngstown OH, and got two AMs along with it, WLOA/1470 Farrell PA and WGRP/940 Greenville PA. When announcing the purchase, EMF said it would immediately attempt to sell off those stations. For now, they've flipped into a simulcast with WEXC in the K-Love format.

The wording in the KSTN/1420 application is no surprise...they don't even want to hang onto it long enough to sell it, and the remaining members of the LaRue family must think they can either flip it (likely to a brokered/religious/ethnic operator) or do something of that nature with it themselves.

Hmmm ... why were there cars parked outside of the KSTN Radio Ranch on Ralph Avenue yesterday afternoon ... and why were all the lights on inside?

And I assume you were the one in the bushes outside with binoculars? ;D

While this was posted in the Central California thread, my predictions for 2011, is that both KSTN-1420 Stockton & KMPH-840 Modesto will return to the air with a Brokered Ethnic format.

Nope. I was also parked outside (with Lenhockey) on my phone to an ex-employee of KSTN, asking if that person could identify the owners of the cars by my description of them. That person was able to identify them quite quickly.

Well then maybe they are preparing to come back on sometime in the near future

That would seem to be a possibility, wouldn't it?

Why didn't you just go knock on the station door and ask the bunch inside what the heck is going on with the station? Sometimes a little boldness will result in some great insight!

Because I already knew who one of the people is, and neither of us would probably have anything civil to say to each other.

Besides, I'm the shyest little flower there is.
