KSTN/1420 Shutting Down...

Well, their back on, I can hear oldies at 1420, however I highly doubt their running at full power

To be clear: you're hearing KSTN on 1420, running KSTN IDs along with the Oldies?

You see, over here (within shouting distance of the KSTN transmitter plant) I can only hear faint Oldies on 1420 ... and it ain't coming from Stockton.

Wait, KSTN 1420 is back on the air??
No. I live in Stockton and I can't hear sh*t. Except static of course. ;)

The 24 hours of KSTN on 1420 AM (running at 1000 watts right now) will reportedly end precisely at noon today. :'(

1000 watts? I would have guessed 50 watts. They sound absolutely AWFUL!!! Lots of static. They sound like a out of towner! And I live in Stockton!!!!!!

Driving around Tracy, Lathrop and Manteca yesterday and this morning: sounds loud, clear and solid.

Through Brentwood and around Stockton in the car, it sounds great. I heard from a friend up in the foothills that he's getting it perfectly on his home console.

I understand (from a friend of a friend whose cousin knows a guy that used to be friends with a guy who knows these things) that KSTN will now probably stay on through Sunday...

Hmmmm. I wonder why I am getting lots of static in my area? There are PGE Power Poles but they are a quarter mile away. Maybe the lighting system of my apartment complex? It is funny that both KWG & KWSX are coming in loud & clear but KSTN is coming in staticy?

You're getting static, Sam, because the audio chain broke down a bit after 8 PM, knocking the station off the air. It sounds like KSTN will be off for good now ... or at least until this time next year.

Yup! Sounds 'lot like the net stream, 10-4?

Really? How'd you finally figure it out?

Re: KSTN/1420 Back On The Air Again...

KSTN got a jump-start around 2:30 PM on Sunday afternoon and -- barring another transmission line failure -- will remain on the air (fingers crossed) probably through Monday morning.
