KSTN: What If?...

Just been wondering, What if the 2008 sale of KSTN-1420/107.3 to Independence Media Holdings had went through and not fall apart? Would they have continued the Regional Mexican format on KSTN-FM 107.3? I always envisioned KSTN-FM challenging either KAT COUNTRY 103 with a Country format or KWIN-97.7/KWNN-98.3 with a CHR/Rhythmic format. And what about 1420 AM? Would it have been a Full Service Sports Station or would it have remained Classic Hits instead of being silent?

Does anyone know if there still trying to sell KSTN-AM?I'd think that if it was to come back on I would have a sports format, maybe ESPN or ESPN Desportes (how well does ESPN 970 cover Stockton?)As we mentioned earlyer, I think that most of the Citadel FM's are untouchable, but I could see it giving KWIN a run for their money. I think Regional Mexican was the best format for KSTN-FM

I think I said this before, but I would have loved to see Mapleton put KPIG on 107.3. With a couple of well-placed boosters that signal could be listenable throughout the Bay Area and the valley. It's ripe for a niche format in a big market. Their music is not my cup of tea, but it's really well-suited for K-Love.

Very insightful sir! I was thinking just that myself recently.

KPIG draws listeners everywhere in NorCal. They sell the station(s) regionally with Ed Monroe doing a real good job telling the story to the agencies and ad buyers in the Bay Area. That "region" includes a station in Morro Bay that covers Cambria, SLO, Santa Maria as well as the AM in San FRancisco.

Mapleton should do that.

I don't think KPIG is on in SF any longer. I believe they did a time brokerage agreement with a Hmong group.
