KSTW CW 11 Studios

Can anybody tell if if their new studios in Renton, Washington (602 Oakesdale Avenue SW) is big enough to accomindate a local in-house newscast? How big or small is their new studios in Renton, Washington? I do missed the old TV 11 the 10 O'clock News.

I thought they left their building in Renton and now reside in the CBS radio building.

I don't know anything about their new studios, but I would certainly like to see a revived Channel 11 newscast. I think they could cut into Fox's 10pm cast, or perhaps, follow the KCAL Los Angeles model and offer even earlier prime time news.

It was my understanding that Oakesdale didn't really have much in way of studios as they didn't perceive they were a production-oriented station. Most production done as a remote on location (e.g. Sport Rest. for Mariners events). And only Sales & Marketing moved to Dexter ... operations still in Renton.

I don't know that much about their new studios either, somebody brought up the old channel 11 news and I agree that KSTW had a great newscast back then and they should bring it back. Also, I just happened to be at the old KSTW building right now, I am a student at Bates Technical College in the Digital Media program. Every now and then I still see remants from the old KSTW, like a big UPN 11 logo in the up the stairs in what's currently the entrance to the warehouse, plus they just removed the KSTW TV block letters on the door to the employee entrance.

Hey Scooby .. glad you enjoy the history of that place!! I remember when it was built and quite the envy of other stations in town who were mostly in old digs at the time (although KIRO moved to their "flashy palace" in 1968 from their old digs atop Queen Anne).

I used to go down to meet with KBTC people, and would pass the new KSTW facility off 405 as I caught the whiff of the sewer plant doing its thing next door. Kept myself amused at how much symbolism was involved, and how I was ironically going to be getting a breath of much much cleaner air when I got to their OLD facility .... assuming, of course, the pulp mill wasn't busy doing its Tacoma thing that particular day!!!!

Grab some pic's if you can!!!!

Anyone remember when The 10 O'Clock News intro featured pictures of "normal" people in the Seattle/Tacoma area along with newsmakers?? My Grandmother was one of the "normal" people featured for a couple of years. She never missed the 10 O'Clock News during that period!! :D

Is their studio still locate on 602 Oakesdale Av SW in Renton, WA or have they relocate to 1000 Dexter Ave N in Seattle Washington? If they moved their studios to CBS Radio Studios, when did they move to Lake Union from Renton?

I used to work Master Control at KBTC at the time they moved up to KSTW's old building in Tacoma. Alot of times i'd end up working the graveyard shift on the board...all by myself in the building. No security guards...just the fence and the locked doors...and god help you if you got locked out at night without your key card...or worse, like what happened to one operator there...ended locked in between the double doors at the front entrence (Thank god for cell phones). Kinda creeped me out at times too being all alone at night, and not necessarily because of being by the Hilltop neighborhood either (I about jumped out of my skin one time when a tape fell off a shelf in the back hallway on my way back to the board...lol). It was fun working there though, and I miss it!

Anyways, somewhere I also have pictures of the old Master Control room from there, prior to KBTC's switch to an HD automation system in the newer room next door (which used to be where promos were ingested into a server and a couple 1-inch machines sat). The old Master Control room at last check, was being converted into offices.

I thought KSTW moved their sales staff to the CBS Radio studios as well, and moved what was left of engineering, to their transmitter building on Capital Hill?

An old issue of RCA Broadcasting News, features the New KSTW studios back in October 1976. Includes floor plan.

Warning if you go to the index of all the RCA Broadcast News

You may spend several hours going through them all, KOMO is mentioned in some issues and it’s interesting to watch a broadcast Nuts to bolts supplier, RCA disappear in the. Very interesting reading from the first issue 1931. Broadcast Equipment Catalog section is fun. I have the last RCA Catalog they put out.
There is also a radio ratings section and you can spend endless hours reading it all.

Thanks for putting all this on this thing we call the internets.

KOMO fans should go to #99, (1958) for some classic photos and probably the only existing pictures of the original KOMO news set. Fantastic stuff.
