The newscast was produced at KTXA in Forth Worth TX. I'd imagine KSTW doesn't want to keep paying to produce it, once they lost their network affiliate.
Ultimately we'll see for how long. Networks are planning on producing less prime time programming, and local news is expensive to produce. Eventually there will be a tipping point, where local stations don't have enough advertisers to support newscasts between 3PM and midnight five nights a week. I mean really; how many hours will viewers want to see coverage of the same porch fire?WUPA says hold my beer. They'll still have a newscast at 8pm.
8pm and 10pm?WUPA says hold my beer. They'll still have a newscast at 8pm.
But why would they want to do this?I wonder if CBS/Paramount can add a studio and add back a local newscast to KSTW. KSTW current office is located inside the transmitter/engineering room/building on Madison St on Capitol Hill Seattle.
So it seems KCPQ will have the 10 o'clock news all to itself once KSTW gives it up.
There were many years that KCPQ had minimal news at best -- when they returned to commercial operation in 1980 they only did brief news updates for several years, before they tried a half-hour newscast at 10 PM that didn't last long. That newscast was cancelled in 1986 and I think (someone correct me if I'm not right, because I'd moved away by then) that they didn't have a news presence again until 1998.It's been that long...wow. There were several years when KCPQ had no news department, but when the 10pm news started in 1998, it just grew from there. Then came 'Mornings on Q' and eventually what is now Good Day Seattle...5 and 6pm news, 11pm, expanded weekends, and more.
Correct. No news for a decade - Keith Shipman was around though and did some sports and public affairs stuff. There were many years that KCPQ had minimal news at best -- when they returned to commercial operation in 1980 they only did brief news updates for several years, before they tried a half-hour newscast at 10 PM that didn't last long.
