KSTW To Resume Local Newscasts

KSTW just started their newscast last night at 10pm. (7/18/22). How was it?
The silence here is pretty comical when you think about it. You have people who bemoan the changes in local TV, insisting that the old days were so much better and claim to be such fans of local news. And yet, when a new-newscast comes on the air, few if any pay attention. Guess that's because the new-newscast isn't on KING?

Just to play devil's advocate for one minute, it seems fairly probable that any commentary on the news presentation on KSTW would be met with a certain amount of backlash from the Radio Discussions community. I did check out KSTW and didn't find it to be particularly good (or bad). They were smart to position it at 10, because there would be no viewers in the 11pm slot.

Sure, but where is it? The armchair TV news directors usually lurking here are no where to be found.

Doesn't the local FOX station have their newscast at 10?

I thought they still had a 10PM.

They still do but that posted eluted that KCPQ only had an 11pm when obviously that's not the case.

I have not seen the KSTW newscast yet due to it being out of my market. I will try to locate it online soon. That said, they should be given time to iron out the kinks, if they exist.

Yes, looking for my walker consumes most of my time these days. If not that, I do make time to tell the neighborhood kids to get off my lawn.

And, of course, there is KING 5 News @ 10pm on KONG... So, there is a reasonable amount of competition at 10pm in Seattle now.

King5 is not king of the ratings. They are in a position that doesn’t create revenue like previous years. I think they should consider moving out of high rent Sodo and find a cheap location for their newscasts. Nobody cares they are near Safeco, or whatever they call it today.

This will be attempt #3 at three stations having newscasts at 10PM.

KSTW flinched in 1998.

KSTW contracted with KIRO for a 10PM newscast in 2002, lasted until 2004, and they flinched again.

A lot has changed in 18 years. Maybe they can make a go of it, but if it's a low budget operation against KCPQ and KONG, seems like a david vs. goliath situation.

I wonder if KSTW can rebuilt a reproduction studios to house a newsroom, currently, their studios house at their transmitter facilities on Madison St in Capitol Hill area of Seattle. KSTW lost their production studios in Tacoma back in 2000 when they sold the building to KBTC PBS 28.

KSTW is named as one of the stations getting the now newscasts from CBS. I know KSTW's operations are hubbed from San Francisco from the KPIX-TV offices. KPIX News Anchors might be included on this but the background of the CBS Bay Area offices would change to Seattle when they do the newscast.
I am not so sure of KSTW getting local staff except for the MMA crew. I know of a another CBS affiliate that is notable for producing newscasts in other markets KTVT Dallas. KTVT even produces newscasts for WUPA-tv
KBCW in San Francisco will also add a 10 p.m. newscast, called “CBS News Bay Area Now on KBCW.”

In Tacoma, KSTW will resume newscasts for the first time since 2005 under the “Seattle Now News at 10 on CW11” moniker, according to information obtained from program listings and confirmed by CBS.
