KSWD to go a little more Indie?

Eric Holmes is going to join KSWD as Programming Asst.,effective AUGUST 24th. Holmes joins from Jacobs Media, where he has spent the past three years as Dir./Music & Promotions. He previously was MD at Alternative WWCD (CD101).
CD 101 has a very Indie flare to it and The Sound is adding a few Indie tracks (Animal Collective, The Shins, Empire of the Sun, Grizzly Bear, etc.). Do you think Holmes will bring a more alternative sound to The Sound?

I thought about that when I heard (read) about Eric Holmes. Can this station find an identity already? I thought at the end of May upper management deemed no more currents.... Now they're adding THOSE artists? I give any station credit for having a playlist that includes acts like that. Now if they'd just keep the Police songs, Talking Heads, Rolling Stones, Led Zep, et al to 2x/day.... Oh forget it -- I don't even listen anymore!! ;D

OK Radiojomo, you got my curiosity aroused, so I just had to check their playlist for today..... Please tell us what station you are talking about because you can't be talking about The Sound. The only "current" I found since 2 am was 'Use Somebody'-Kings of Leon. They did play Greg Kihn Band's 'The Breakup Song' not once but twice today. ??? And the rest of the day (except for 10@10) was populated by ::) The Usual Suspects.

So what gives with your info about the 'adds'?

They do have an identity. They are billing themselves as the station that plays the best music. In this age of iPods, radio stations need to keep the element of surprise and not be constricted "formats".

If they do, I sure as hell hope they change their name. "The Sound" is just such a boring name, Indie 100.3!

Today is not April 1st, so I do not understand this thread.

As I mentioned the other day, the Sound's recent adds include Boston, Aerosmith and Bad Company, with a healthy dose of Led Zep as well. The only currents I've heard come off of the new U2 album. The Sound's treatment of U2 borders on worship. They're a rock band for Crissakes, not messianic figures.

Note to Sound management: Quit playing "London Calling" and "Should I Stay or Should I Go" already. You've gone way beyond burning these songs to a crispy crisp. I don't thing they have ever been off of the playlist. Thanks.

Blame Radiojomo.... :)
Geez, HAHA, it was just a comment if something was going to be going on at The Sound. Although they're at #8 in the O.C., they're still doing pretty bad for a Class B after almost a year of being on the air. The only other Class B's rated lower than The Sound are KXOS, KKLA and KWVE

Here is the list of currents on KSWD effective 8/2

They all got 1 spin on a speciality show. Not necessarily an "add"

Thanks Radio Researcher, I rest my case....

Note to Radiojomo: Instead of starting up a CHR Internet station, WHY NOT do a AAA??? Doncha think there's a hole in SoCal radio big enough to drive a Mack Truck and a Hummer through?? 8)

HAHA! I don't know about that one. AAA doesn't seem very popular online. That and it's to advertise the company I work for. I really want to launch an alternative station online, but I don't have the money and it doesn't seem many online Alternative stations survive online. Two of my favorite alternative online stations have left in the past year so I'll just start something on Goom Radio when they let people start building their own stations.

Not popular???????? Have you never heard of Radio Paradise, online for almost decade now .... With a devoted and loyal following, just check their forum. Legato Cafe could be around a while as well. How do you measure popularity anyway? Alternative- WOXY.com still around too!

Exactly. Using Radiojomo's logic, I understand that the Sound has added "Pico and Sepulveda" and "Fish Heads" within the last month as well.

Speaking of specialty shows on the Sound, I really enjoy "Peace, Love and Sunday Mornings" with Mimi Chen. The mood is very mellow with lots of "Oh Wow" cuts.
