KTAR – Show your listeners some respect

I was in the car on the way home listening to Bill Clinton address the Democratic convention on KTAR. I can’t tell you how disgusted I was with the KTAR talk show hosts during his speech as they kept talking over his speech with their snide comments. Come on guys… you are a news station; let the news air without your editorial comments.

Don’t insult me and others by constantly interrupting this historic event and talking over it so people can’t hear it. Whether you like Clinton or not, agree with him or disagree with him, whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, for Obama or McCain, show some respect to your listeners and quit acting so juvenile! Wait until the speech is over and then add your two cents, then rip him apart if you want. I would not have had a problem with that. Pretty soon you will be adding color commentary over Amber Alerts.

You remind me of children, just talking to talk. I know you are a talk station. Save the talking for where it belongs. It doesn’t belong during a live news event!

There are some people that would have liked to have heard our former President speak without you interrupting him on and off for 20 minutes. You are not doing anything to help the industry; you are forcing people to listen to news on satellite or over the internet in the car when it becomes available.

Is this the Bonneville way? Serving the community? What would Bruce Reese and Dr. Brady have said if they heard your rants during Clinton’s speech tonight?

There is a time and a place for your self indulgent opinions. Have some consideration for your listeners that really care and would like to listen to current events. Show us some respect!!!!

Was it Beavis (Mac 'n Cheese) and Butthead (Gaydos) talking over the speech?

Yes it was! I was driving to school and was listening. Anytime they felt there was a point to be made about something that President Clinton said they added commentary. After a few minutes, I just switched to KFYI.

I have mixed feelings about this practice. On one hand, they had things they wanted to challenge the former President on, and rather play back snippets or the whole speech they took their shots. On the other hand, I wanted to hear without the background stuff.

Later on, a caller (Louie?) asked if they would do the same thing during the GOP convention and Mac/Gaydos said they would.

Yeah, right! For the GOP convention KT'R should bench Beavis & Butthead and bring in Keith Olberman and Randi Rhodes for voiceover commentary. That'll be a lot more interesting!

I would pay money to listen to that! FUNNY! ;D

Mike Malloy was doing the same thing on KPHX during Hillary's speech Tuesday night. KFYI kept their comments to themselves (off the air), at least for the brief time I was listening.

Because of the convention, I purposely went and got a book on tape.

My commute has been fascinating and illuminating and infinitely more enjoyable than any convention related dreck.

I agree. I still can't figure out why media people think that a preplanned, polished and rehearsed political event is worthy of wall-to-wall coverage.

I don't listen to talk radio but have even been boycotting my normal news sources this week (and will next as well) as they waste lots of hot air covering the predictable.

Is Randi Rhodes still in the business? Hmm, learn something new every day.

They are a news/talk station and under no obligation to air any of the DNC or RNC. The incident you are referring to happened during the host's regular allotted time slots and, subsequently, they may talk over a speech/comment all they like. You don't have to like it/approve of it but the primary goal here is entertainment, period. Personally, I don't find Mac nor Gaydos the least bit entertaining, so maybe you're discovering what many figured out long ago (based on the ratings).

Mac & Gaydos..... They sound like two loud old women who bitch, complain, and whine about anything, and everything. It's NOT compelling radio, It's not talk radio. They should be treated like a couple of loud neighbors who love to hear themselves... Just close your doors and windows, or in this case, just replace your KTAR station pre-set with anything less irritating.

Please let's not bring Keith Olberman as a source of broadcasting credibility :D
