KTAR-A releases rights to World Series

El stupido! Guess increasing revenue doesn't matter to a station in 10th place. Thoughts?

Not "el stupido." Absolutely necessary. KTAR is committed to local sports and has legal obligations to the Suns, Cards, and ASU. Plus, they didn't cancel their "flagship" program (Gambo & Ash) to carry the other post-season series'. The games were joined in progress at 6 PM unless there was a Suns game, in which baseball wasn't carried at all.

KDUS (OK, maybe I was wrong in an earlier post - they will make serious coin on this) will carry the first 3 games of the series, with KTAR picking up Games 4 & 5. If the Series goes to Game 6/7, I expect those to be on KDUS as well since KTAR will have more local committments.

Note to Gumpdusky: KTAR can't give ESPN Radio any more than "filler" time other than middays. How about trying to snag the affiliation away from them? Sporting News Radio probably won't be around too much longer (but how long have we been saying that? ;D ).

True, but I have a feeling that if this were a Red Sox/Dodgers series, you would have heard either that series on 620 and Suns/ASU/Cards on 92.3 (or vice-versa).

Possibly, but that's true everywhere in the country outside of eastern Pennsylvania/southern Noo Joizey and the Gulf coast of Florida (and I'm not 100% sure about the latter). Neither team has a national following. The Diamondbacks had the same problem in '01. If they hadn't been playing the Yankees, especially so soon after 9/11, the 2001 WS would have been a big yawner.

I expect this series to be the lowest-rated in history since there are no "national" teams in it - those being the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, & Cubs. Jon Miller will do his usual professional job on ESPN Radio (the less said about Joe Morgan, the better. ;D ). But I expect plenty of snide comments from Fox's Joe Buck and Tim McCarver about both teams, despite McCarver being an ex-Phillie.

Ad dollars will likely be down on both radio and TV because of the teams involved. Philly may be the #4 media market, but it's not NYC, LA, Chicago, or Boston as far as being a sports market is concerned. And Tampa/St. Pete isn't on anyone's sports-media radar screen.

"And Tampa/St. Pete isn't on anyone's sports-media radar screen."

Nor is beisbol as far as I can tell.

While ratings will probably be low, a lot depends on the length of the series. A see-saw series with a Game Seven will deliver eyeballs on TV. Radio? Not so much.
