Wanderings...

34731793.thl.gif A dear friend and fan of the show wrote to tell me that I have to blog more often because “everyone wants to know how you’re doing.” So, for Val and others who are interested—a new blog.

The magic on-air date here in Phoenix is January 2nd. Actually, I will be introduced on Tuesday the 2nd but my show won’t officially debut until the following day from 8:30 to Noon (MT) on 92.3FM KTAR. KTAR is building the best media website in America and once you visit you will see why. The infrastructure of the site will allow more people to listen than most other media sites and with excellent clarity. If you are in the Dallas area and tried to listen to KLIF at work you know how hard it was to hear the AM signal. Consider this a solution to that problem. Soon, the show will be available for download on your Ipod so you can listen to it wherever you want—whenever you want. [EDIT]

Why cut the spot-heavy, high-power-ratio morning news off a 1/2 hour early? Are they trying to get a jump on KFYI by starting 30 minutes earlier than Barry? Oh, wait... he starts at 8.

When I first heard McMahon mention that Ankarlo would start at 8:30, I was wondering the same thing. Maybe Ankarlo wanted more than three hours. Maybe KT'R felt they told enough news after 3 1/2 hours. In Detroit, most morning jocks work from 5 to 10.

I doubt KTAR thinks that, because they realize that no one listens to the entire block or even 10% of the block, so "3-1/2 hours of news" is a bit misleading. The only ones hearing more than one or two QHs are Ned, Connie, and the board op.

"Jocks" in most markets end at 10 if they're playing music. Most successful news and news/talk stations have shifted the AMD daypart up an hour from 6-10 to 5-9.

Thanks. I mis-spoke. I was referencing music, not news. Bad analogy.

So we know Ankarlo's time and McMahon's moving. Any news about if KT'R is going to simulcast the Sportsline or go with a new show?

That would be my guess.

Darrell, safe talk all day because he kisses all the establisment's posteriors!

Much as I don't like the nearly bald youn, I'll be listening to Barry starting next week (not the terrible Markson)
