KTAR...breaking news? really?

Too funny hearing Jaybird take calls (only time they open up phone lines) on essentially moldy-oldie not-new-anymore stories. And, yes, by Saturday, the chicken-sandwich place is old news.

The time to open up the phone lines is DURING THE WEEK, when the news stories are still timely and relevant. I mean, seriously: is Bonneville contracting with NBC Sports department for consulting? I really gotta wonder some days.

KFYI continues to take home the "talk radio" gold in this market.

Thanks Indieradioguy for noticing that I take phone calls. Sorry about chicken sandwich story, I don't remember it.
Hopefully I had a funny line to go with it and much of the rest of the calls dealt with current news stories.

Jay Lawrence! Class act! Thanks for all you do, sir.

Riddle us this: Why does KTweetAR mock the AZ Socialist Republic's decision to charge for its web material when they really don't want their readers as listeners? Newspaper demos are approaching those of a cemetery. Do TMISU really think Republic readers know the difference between a web site and a cobweb? But what the hey, now Aunt Edna knows content is free and she can win $$ by visiting the KTweetAR website. If only her smartphone didn't have a rotary dial!

Many people who have the hard copy newspaper subscription trade the internet access to a relative etc. I'm sick of the chicken stuff

I am glad Jay takes calls, I listened for a bit last night, same mouthbreathing cranks, talking about all them evil messican's taking our jobs...

Jay, I hope you have alka seltzer when you take calls, because you got the rabble last night.

The bigger riddle is: Why hasn't Clear Channel produced any spots about how "the other guys" won't take their calls? Of course, CC should be sending Bonneville a gift basket since their numbers have gone through the roof month after month after month thanks to no listener calls M-F 9-5 (when PPM matters), so at this point, all they have to do is sit back and wait for more genius moves from Bonneville. Bonneville should flip to all sports or big band (a la vintage KOY) since they obviously forgot what the "talk radio" format entails.

Nurse Jeff and I think KFWhyEye is smart not to call attention to KTweetAR's policy of no listener calls during the week. Let 92~Three hosts continue to guffaw at each other while plugging their Facebook page or reading tweets. If they want younger listeners, get rid of talk and buy back the KKFR call letters ::)

As Nurse Jeff and I've said for some time now, the November election will inflate ratings of the newstalk stations across the fruited plains. In the Valley, listeners know who covers politics best and where to go to talk about it.

Of course, the fact that KTAR-FM is ahead of KFYI by about 40% in 25-54, and has just had their best 25-54 book in about a year should not confuse anyone into thinking that perhaps KFYI is losing the battle, calls or no calls.

Mid-days is won in 25-54 by that same FM, but by a slightly wider margin.

I think Bonneville should send a nice Saguaro to the folks at KFYI... since that plant is about the only thing in Arizona with a higher average age than the 550 AM cume!

So we have quite an epic battle in this market. The fantastic clash between KFYI: A station that has an aged listener base, mostly syndicated, foolish or out of touch hosts (aside from Jim Sharpe) and KTAR: A station with a positioner that might as well be "We talk, you listen". Listener response and reaction to local events is unimportant and of course with the overwhelming talent the station puts on the air, you can see why they wouldn't want to break up that fantastic roll with anyone in the audience. You know... he audience that's part of the community that they're supposed to be serving, the audience that buys the products they advertise.

...and terrestrial radio wonders why it's ultimately becoming as irrelevant as the newspaper. Actually they don't wonder that because they're on the Titanic and even with the engine room flooded and water rising fast they'll tell you how the ship is unsinkable. Anyone that is remotely honest with themselves would be able to assess the problems with this once might business of terrestrial radio.

I listen because I'm passionate about the business.. I'm somewhat involved in it still these days and I guess there is just a bit of morbid curiosity as to how bad it will get. My involvement aside, the facts are what they are, young people don't listen to radio. Do you know anyone under 23 outside of the business (or interested in the business) that listens to terrestrial radio anymore? Why don't they listen? Because frankly there's nothing for them to listen to anymore.

When one station caters to 50 year olds, another station doesn't care what you have to say and shuts you out---not to mention is just a bad product, then what do you expect?

We're surprised it's only 40% as KTweetAR is on FM where 95%+ of listeners under the age of 55 roll. The fact that KFWhyEye remains competitive on Ancient Modulation is impressive.

(fake studio audience sfx) oooooh!

My favorite part of Jay Lawrence's show- not the calls (though I like thathat he takes calls), but when he cracks up reading over the top news stories and can't stop laughing-he's hilarious!
